2005 Mini Cooper S engine air filter
Hi,
I am rather new to the forum and have bought a 2005 MCS. I am trying to do some of the tune up work myself for the car. The problem i am running into is the Engine air filter replacement. I didn't know if any of you had experience disassembling and installing a new filter, or if any of you could know of a good link with directions. Thanks for you help. much appreciated.

it is a piece of cake....
can you find the air box? If not let me know and I'll add a picture, but the air box is the big rectangular thing with that extra + battery terminal attached to the left side (looking from the front) ... next to the engine compartment fuse box.
Unclip that extra terminal box and push it out of the way. The air box has a big hose or tube running into the front side. Disconnect that - I toss the clamp that's there, it is a pia to get back on and overkill for what you need.
Remove the cover of the box, you may find two screws or just some plastic clips on the sides. If you break the clips just replace with some screws in 2 opposing corners.
Remove the old filter, clean up any junk you find in the bottom of the box (leaves and a bug or two are not unusual); and drop in the new filter (note the rubber seal is at the TOP); put the box cover back on.
Reconnect the hose and clamp - I just use a wire tie (aka a zip-tie) to clamp the hose. It will provide more than enough pressure to keep this in place.
Put the battery terminal back in place.
Estimated time required: 5 minutes if you stop for a quick one along the way!

thanks,
i actually finished it by the time you wrote but hopefully the instructions can help. And i agree with you about that darn clamp, it is a beast to get on. I got the filter from NAPA, that was $12ish, and the cabin air filter was $23, but that was a bit easier to put in. Thanks again
