R50/53 Missing toggle switch
This is going to be a stupid question but...on the center console where the window switches are located there's a missing switch. It's the fourth switch over from the left. What would this switch do if I had it in my MCS? What option package does it belong to?
-Thanks. I apologize in advance for my ignorance. :???:

No problem.
The switch is for the rear fog lights. This is not a standard option from the factory, but a retrofit kit that can be purchased at your Mini dealership. The option was only available outside the US, but with a lot of persistance the US Mini owners got BMW to offer a retrofit kit.
All of the part numbers and installation instructions can be found at Gabes site at http://www.thelivingoods.com/mini/ToggleSwitchPanel/

Hah! Get it? BEAR in mind? Anyway, I guess some people just can't bear having empty spaces in their row of toggles... Forgive me, I'm really bored and tired today.

PS- Sorry to hijack this thread with banter. Anyway, I picked up the new 2004 MINI Accessories catalog at my dealer last week and have been incessantly looking through it every day... so many options, so many decisions! My dream would be to have enough money to walk into the dealership and say:
"Jet Black MCS Works, please...with EVERY option in this book."
Man, that would sure be one expen$ive...and impressive... MINI....

I think I am going to have the front driving/rally lights installed and see if I can get a toggle installed to activate them, which would leave me with one open space...what to install that could benefit from a really cool-looking toggle switch...
I bought 2 OEM toggle switches from someone who replaced their toggle bank. With more and more people getting rear fogs installed, there should be some switches out there for sale. Keep your eyes open.
Oh yeah, my extra toggle opens my garage door.

I don't have DSC or ASC, so the second toggle switch just sends the full 12 volt signal to one of the pins in the wiring harness. My garage door remote conveniently takes a 12 volt battery (small black Genie replacement from Home Depot). A friend made me a wiring harness that taps into the switch harness without cutting anything. I removed the remote battery and attached the proper wire from the harness to the remote's positive terminal, and grounded the negative terminal. Then I secured the remote button so it was always pressed.
I made the two wires long enough that I could run them behind the A-pillar up above the headliner where I put the remote. So it's completely invisible. Bonus: the power from the car's battery made the range of the remote twice a far as it was with it's normal battery.
So a quick press of the second toggle opens my garage door from about 250 feet.

Now that's flippin' brilliant... I WANT to be able to do that
... I'll be saying "watch THIS" quite a bit, i can tell. Me impressed.
What a brilliant idea Scooterboy. I wanna do it! (of course, I'll have to get a new garage door opener - mine's kaput). That's enough to motivate me to install a new one. I'll have to keep an eye out for a used switch panel FS.
i picked up the mini accessories catalog and there are lots of neat stuff in it. the rear fog light is listed at us$75.00. i am assuming it must be for the toggle panel. i asked the dealer and they want close to us$350.00 to install it including the part. what a rip off!!! this is from mini of sterling.

Get the switch bank from Brian at Classic MINI for $60 + shipping, install it yourself, and have your dealer activate it for 1/2 hour labor costs. Many of us have done it.
