It's raining today in Virginia, and as I was speeding down the interstate to work I suddenly noticed water droplets on top of the dash... then that the headliner was wet where it meets the windscreen... and around the clock (but there was a dry spot between it and the rear view mirror)... and finally there was water in the crevice between my silver dash and the black dash top!

I don't know quite what to make of this. I had the windshield replaced at 1500 miles due to a rock chip, so that could account for some of the problem, but certainly shouldn't cause the water in the front of the dash as far as I can tell. Also I'm now at 25000 miles, and have driven in rain plenty since having the windshield replaced.

I'm going to the dealer in a week for my second service (they're 2 1/2 hours away) but was just wondering if anyone else has run into this.

Thanks!

do you have the sunroof/moonroof option? If so, that also might be the problem or part of the problem as well. anyone know if there is a drainage channel and/or drain tube connected to the moonroof/sunroof? good luck.

Thanks for the thoughts jimbo...

I do have the sunroof, but none of the wet spots on the healiner were around it, so I guess it's less likely to be a source of leak, although I woulen't totally rule it out.

After speaking with the service dept at my dealer, it sounds like they want to pull the entire dash to check it out. And things had been so perfect (mostly) until now...

I had the windshield replace d on another car last year and it leaked in the same place. They had to replace and reseal the windshield again. It sounds like you have the same problem.

cool. when you do find out plz let us all know what happened. I know that with an old CRX that I had one of the drainage channels was somehow moved so that it no longer drained outside of the car. It looked like there was a leak in the trunk somewhere. Then I found out that "someone" probably the bodyshop must've moved the drainage tube and had the end pointing into the trunk. needless to say, it took awhile to get rid of the smell...

My headliner is leaking in the exact same spot. Yes, I have the sunroof - and I'm assuming is a function of poor/failed/old seals. Right now I'm just looking for a garage, any garage, to get MINI inside and dried out before the problem gets any worse. At the very earliest, I'll to get MINI into the dealer this Friday. Here's hoping we don't have any more snow before then.... I'm off to take pics before it dries out. I don't want any of that BS "could not replicate problem" from the dealer.

My sunroof leaked seemed they put the gasket in to far on the drivers side. It was a 4 hour replacement by the dealer, and no charge.

My sunroof leak came down the passengers "A" pillar plastic and soaked the carpet. It was a broken drain tube.

Even with that hassle, I am glad I have the sunroof.

Ack!!! Mine Too!!!!

The bloodly little ingrate!

I went to one of those laser/touchless washes today (had been to the same one about a month before and had no problem) and about 10 minutes after leaving noticed 2 wet spots on the headliner on either side of the clock console.

Upon inspection, I determined (and by "I" I do mean the b/f) that it was perhaps that little square area right above where the clock console is (you can see it with the sunroof open) that was the origin of the leak. As best we can tell, opening the sunroof dumped the water into the gutters, except the gutters didn't work and all the water kind of seeped in around that little square area. There isn't any sealant there, and you can actually see a little crack through which the headliner is visible.

I am... perturbed.
