Got mine the first week of November, and now have 1800 miles on the clock. I also have a tire story in the short amount of time I've had the car. After about three weeks with the car and 600 miles, my right front tire's sidewall blew out. I was able to get the car home on the runflats, and a closer look showed a 2 inch rip in the sidewall, and no indication of it being caused by me hitting something. The next morning I called Schomp Mini here in Denver. The Mini service guy asked me if I was looking to replace it or have it covered by warranty. When I told him I thought it should be covered under warranty, he told me they couldn't help me since they don't do tire warranties, and told me to go to a tire shop. The people at Discount Tire called Dunlop on my behalf, and found out that the Dunlops have a road hazard warranty and they could take care of me. HOWEVER, they did not have the tires in stock, so they had to order it which would take about a week. So now I'm faced with not having a car for a week. Looking for something to get me by for the week, I call Schomp again to see if they have any wheels that they've pulled off another car that they could loan me for the week. Everyone at Mini tells me they can't help me, and eventually I get a guy at the BMW parts desk, and when I explain to him that I just want to get my car that I just bought from them three weeks ago back on the road, he tells the Mini guy that the most important thing is to get me back on the road, so they tell me to come in. When I get there, I deal with the Mini guy again, and he tells me that what I need to do is pay them $250 for a new Dunlop (which they now tell me they have plenty of in stock), and tell Discount I no longer need the tire (which they've already special ordered on my behalf). They then planned to send the tire to Dunlop, and if they deem that the tire was defective they would refund my money. When I explained that Discount tells me the tires are covered, they tell me sorry, but they can't do anything else. So at this point I'm frustrated because I can't drive my brand new car, and the only way I'm going to get it back on the road is to spend $250 at the dealer, and tell Discount that I no longer want it. About this time the BMW parts guy walks by and asks if they are taking care of me. I explain the situation, and he tells me that they just switched out the tires on his Mini, and the old Goodyears are almost new. He then tells the Mini Service rep to switch out a Goodyear for my Dunlop, and that will get me back on the road for the week. They switch the tire in about 20 minutes, and the BMW guy tells me that I can keep the Goodyear and doesn't charge me anything for the switch. I also asked about the Dunlop and there was nothing that showed evidence of me running over anything to cause the sidewall gash. A week later Discount puts my new Dunlop on for the Goodyear. They charged me a small wear pro-ration and for mounting, but I wasn't going to argue at that point. I also kept the Goodyear, just in case this ever happens again.

To summarize, I wish the people at Mini had 1/2 the clue that the people at BMW and Discount Tire have. They just sold me a $23,000 car three weeks prior, and although my situation may not have been part of the documented area of what they need to do for me, the customer service provided by the people at BMW and Discount blows Mini away. Too bad I'm stuck with these guys since they are the only Mini dealer in the state.
