For anyone that hasn't joined BMWCCA you're missing out on a great opportunity. For your $35 you get BMWCCA's monthly magazine (Roundel) , your chapter's monthly newsletter on local activities, discounts on parts at the BMW parts counter (including MINI parts at some dealerships).

That alone more than justifies the $35, but wait there's more, by joining BMWCCA you also get the chance to go to well organized BMWCCA autocross and track events with great instruction and a very reasonable prices for members.

While we're sitting here at year's end thinking about ways to make 2004 better, consider joining BMWCCA if you haven't done so already (you don't have to have a BMW or MINI to join).

I have been a member of the BMWCCA on and off for over 20 years. I sold my second M3 a few months after I purchased my MCS. I will not be renewing with BMWCCA, will wait until MINICCA gets up and running. BMW priced the new M3s out of my price range.

I joined this year and got a lower rate of $33 per year by signing up for three years. In my area there is no sign the MINI CCA will officially start anytime soon and the BMW CCA includes MINIs so that is as good as I can do. We participate in 1 to 2 day track events, car rallys and social events. The BMW CCA chapter in my area is over 330 members-more each month. The Roundel is quite good.

MINICCA is dead and in the cold earth and has been for some time.

The two BMWCCA chapters I've been apart of (Rocky Mountain and L.A.) have both been very welcoming of MINI owners.

well said DiD... dead and cold are two great adjectives for the MINICCA.

But all is not lost - there are some GREAT local MINI clubs out there that are full of opporunities (see http://www.bridger.us/mini right side bar for a list) to get out on the track or simply do some motoring. If you're more in the autoX mode I'd also highly recommend the BMWCCA. As a long time BMWCCA member myself I can speak from experience when I say that they are generally a very welcoming bunch and always have host some great events.

That is great to hear. If it's true MINICCA is dead - well why is that. BMW playing their hand against MINI .orgs.(MCO) Until BMWCCA comes out and says they are going to support MINI the same way they support BMWs I will not renew my membership with them. Don't get me wrong, I said my membership has been over 20 years, great mag. and info. Just want an org. dedicated to the MINI. Mark are you reading this?(NAM.mag) My money my choice.
Charles

P.S. My last three cars before I bought the MCS were BMWs!

No - several reasons (1) one person who doesn't quite want to give up control of the name and (2) there isn't a large enough base of MINIs in this country to warrent a national club (the BMWCCA took 30 years to form into what it is today). It has nothing to do with BMW or MINI and in fact they were supportive of the idea in general.

Gabe does a nice job of presenting the issues surrounding MINICCA.

Whether or not BMWUSA wants there to be formal recognition of MINIs as BMWs, the BMW enthusiasts in the leadership of BMWCCA view MINIs as BMWs and as such have welcomed MINIs with open arms. BMWCCA is the best deal going for a national organization welcoming MINI owners.

I joined about a month ago and already received the Roundel and my local Boston chapter newsletter, in addition to my welcome information.

I am looking forward a lot to the ice racing, seems pretty lax and probably a good intro into the group and how things are done. Hopefully then in the spring I will run some autox with them.

Events cost less for members, so that was really the selling point of the $35 for me.

Why not hve both? I recently joined M2C2, the MINI club of the Carolinas. There seems to be an active group of poeple here who are into the car. However, I'm also a member of the BMWCCA. I don't see the realistic possibility of a national organization based on one (okay, two, technically) car(s). A good case study is the Miata. The VERY vocal and active group of Miata enthusiasts out there haven't been able to put together a National Miata club yet, and there have been a lot more Miatas sold than MINIs.

I plan to do as much with the MINI club as possible, and allow the BMW CCA to organize and run some other events, as well.

Regarding the BMWCCA, it seems that locally they are very welcoming of the New MINI, but nationally, not so much. You don't see much in the Roundel about the MINI any more, and I don't know that there were any MINIs at the "Octoberfest" this year.

As an editorial comment, I also think that the BMWCCA is getting really "grey", in that most of the people running the club (nationally) have been members for a long time, and, especially in Roundel, you can start to see some of the prejudices coming out. It will be touch and go for the next few years as to whether it becomes an "old boys club" or if they continue to welcome and encourage new members (especially those who don't have BMWs) to be active in the club. Locally I don't think this is an issue, but nationally, I don't like the trend I see in Roundel. I know as a new member several years ago I felt pretty much not welcome at the octoberfest in Indiana. Just my opinion, mind you.
