Does anyone know how to initialize a new master key? My Dealer wants to charge a fee. The instruction in the owner's manual does not seem to work.

Its a real scam. I ordered an extra key at the time I was adding accessories before I picked up my new mini. The salespeople never told me about the extra service charge to program it or the fact that I would have to make a special appointment through the service department to get it done. With only 70 dealers nationwide, this could be a long drvie for lots of people. I'm beginning to get nervous about the long term service we are really going to get.

 

I lost mine, the dealer ordered and sold me a replacement, and had it mailed to me, I couldn't activate it, the dealer then said "Oh yes, we have to activate it using the bar-code which is attached to it." Luckily I was able to find the bar-code, which I had removed. 160 miles and 4 hours later I had my new key. Which cost me $154.00, and a lot of grief. Yeah, I posted a thread about a week ago about this very subject.My dealership wanted to charge $95.00 per hour to program my key. I had a fit and they did it free. How redicules to pay $125 for a key and then another $95.00 per hour (it took them 1 1/2 hours too, by the way) In my opinion, if you order a remote key, it should be a REMOTE KEY without any additional charges! GRRRRR Sorry, this whole sublect makes me a bit hostile! What a scam!

The DEALER lost my key before delivery, ordered and mailed me a replacement key within 2 weeks...which happened to be the WRONG key...so it took another 2 weeks before I got the correct replacement key. Since my dealer is 550 miles away (my own doing) I have to drive 200 miles away to the nearest dealer to get it programmed because yes, the "initialize your key" doesn't work. The dealership that lost the key has agreed to pay for any labor charges...I just hope I'm able to get them on the phone before my appointment! :evil: :evil:
