Can't tell for sure, just wondering if you have seen the video in the Owner's Lounge?

Go tho the Owner's Lounge, to Vehicle Tracking and click on "at the distribution center" there is a live link to video... it is only 50 secs at high bandwidth... but interesting.

I have not seen the video, but I think the main function, other than marshalling cars to the dealers, is to perform a final quality check on the vehicle. Some things they will elect to fix there. Others they will go ahead and forward to the dealer for more minor repairs. In my case they found a defective tach but went ahead and sent the car. The dealer said they had two come in with the same issue off the same truck. I had a two day delay while they waited for the part.

My MINI was there for three weeks in September - don't hold your breath.

All they do at the VPC is look over the car, fix any problems, install the MINI FINI cupholder (probably do a bad job too, although mine is fine), put it on a truck and give the truck a good kick in the ***.

I think the facility in Newark has a paint shop I guess they fix any dings dents and scrapes there so the dealer has no knowledge of what happened so legally does not have to tell you. Also it's probably cheaper for BMW to do it this way.

btw, I used to work for an Audi VW daelership. You would be amazed at how many 'new' cars have had paint work done before delivered to the unsuspecting owners!!
