R50/53 It's so Cute!
>>Minis are cute, the girls like cute cars. I like the girls.........
>>
>>What is the problem?
BING BING BING! We have a winner!
I could pull more *** in this car than a public toilet seat. And it is all because it is cute. The ladies all think it's cute, when the hairy 6'6" biker guy with leather chaps, a cowboy hat, and chapstick in a holster on his belt says it's cute... RUN AWAY!
My ghetto'ed out next door neighboor says "Man that junk is Pimp Tight"
What can you say. I love my car and that is the bottom line

I had a cute girl once tell me my car was "weird". She saw my car (not knowing I owned it) and said "Those cars are so weird." I think I took her by surprise when I said it was mine, and she didnt know what to say after that.
Thanks to all of you for helping me come to terms with the fact that I own one of the cutest cars of all time. I just never considered its cuteness as a reason to buy one, for me it was about performace and quality. I am proud of my MINI and will work on accepting its cuteness.
>>>>Now I know why people save the money and just get the regular cooper. If it is just going to be considered really really really cute then why bother with the supercharger and DSC and 17" wheels etc.
>>
>>Really? 'Cause that's not what I know. Who deemed the Cooper any less of a car than the S? I paid more for my "regular" cooper than some MCS' cost. And so what that my car doesn't sport a supercharger. It's still pretty fast. Finally, get over the cute thing. The MINI in general is cute--whether in an aggressive way or not. It's there. I just don't get (infact I hate) your comment listed above. Both cars are essentially the same. You make me feel like I have "less" of a car, and I do not. Geez...
I have an S but I agree with your comment that the Cooper is no less of a great car than the S. They are both Great!

Yeah, "cute" is definitely the #1 comment that ticks me off, although now I usually just ignore the comments and go about my business. The way I see it - despite what anyone says, I think it's a cool car and that's what matters.
As a friendly joke/rub, my co-worker still occasionally calls my car "cute" after he dusts me in his 350Z during our trips to lunch, but that's kind of funny and he's definitely got a car to back that comment up.

Cute= attractively cool in a Mini way!

>>Confusion: Did you buy this car because YOU liked it, or because you wanted everyone else to know what a hot hunk of engineering studliness you were?<<
Toast strikes again! You articulated perfectly what I was thinking.

When I finally get my MCS, I really look forward to fielding the non-stop "It's so cute!" comments.
My stable of responses will always begin with "Thanks, I'm glad you like it." I'll probably follow that with "It's a lot of fun to drive.", "I really enjoy driving, and it's the more fun than any car I've ever owned." or "It's a blast. I wouldn't trade it for anything.".
Only if someone REALLY deserves it, will I hint slyly that "it's a wolf in sheep's clothing" or that "it would be really embarrasing to to get smoked by such a cute car, but that it could be arranged."
The key is to always keep the twinkle in your eye. There are a lot of cool cars in the world, but not many any cooler than our MINIs. (This, of course, includes both the MC & MCS in equal measure!)

My IB/W Cooper gets "cute comments" all the time and it not only doesn't bother me, I kinda like it. I've shunned taking any steps to make it more aggressive, menacing, or classy looking. Cute is fine for me. Anyway, I think most folks know on some level that the car has more going for it than just cuteness. MINIs have a little more built in attitude than the classic.
BTW, my daughter loves the "cuteness" of classic Minis so much...she likes to hug them (around the cabin) which she can do due to its diminutive size. The MINI is a bit too large for her arms to fit around.

>>Just keep reminding your 350Z friend that his ride doesn't get 30+ mpg on the highway, nor does it carry four people in the process.
I've never topped 26MPG (all highway, one passenger)...I average about 21MPG combined, 19MPG all city. When I originally tried to drive somewhat conservatively, I used to get about 23MPG combined and about 21MPG city so I just gave up
Back to the "cute" matter... I went out with a bunch of ppl from work tonight, including a new guy and his girlfriend. He called it cool, but then she instantly began raving about how "cute" it is...(grin and bear it, grin and bear it...argh!) At least she was really "cute" herself with the whole bubbly-bouncy routine, so I couldn't really get too mad...it's amazing how they can get away with things like that...I blame hormones
I think I almost mind it less when people say it's ugly than "cute"

It's strange ... I picked up my car because it had all the options I wanted but not the color I wanted (LY/W) ... but it was available now instead of 10 months later. I have a friend who races a classic Mini and we discussed this 'cuteness' issue at length. He finally said that it's a common remark, even for the originals and to celebrate the 'cuteness'. What the heck, makes perfect sense to me. Many of you have already realized that females seem to respond to the cute factor and to me that's a bonus. I'm secure enough in myself that a comment that the car is 'cute' doesn't bother me but rather makes me smile as they get in their Camry.
I know my car is a blast to drive and that's the bottom line. If it generates conversation than there's a bonus. Will it smoke anyone at the stop light? No! Is it fast enough for me? Well, no ... but I am working on that.
Enjoy your car, motor, and celebrate it for what it is ... like nothing else on the road.
Let's Motor!
