Northern England, Sunday morning in January and it's snowing hard. Plan? head for the Pennine hills for Sunday lunch and the 'Blue Bell Inn' to enjoy the remoteness and scenery.

There were three of us in the Mini which LOVES being driven in snow, having all the weight over the driving wheels. Looking ahead we note that the road is totally blocked by a car that can't get up a hill ; if we loose our momentum and stop we will be stuck too. So I accelerate and aim right at the surprised motorist until we are doing about 40mph. As we approach his car I aim up the banking to the right side of him and the car shoots up the bank, losses 50% of it's speed and we pass him, drifting back onto the road upstream. Two quick toots of the horn and a wave and we make it to the top of the hill and the pub with no other real challenges.

Final act, a 90 degree hand brake turn parking job between two other cars. The owners of the other cars (who were looking at us when we did this) were still quivering when we walked in the door. A couple of extra pints were bought and we all had a great afternoon together. Ah, the power of the Mini!!

Yes, that story brings back many happy memories of freaking out my friends in the early 70's in my 66 "S". The great thing was, if you lost it, it was so small there was good chance you would not hit anything!
