And the reason was included in the post........not everyone thinks they need to post here about problems or fixes.

Very difficult to prove a negative.

as tempting as a pulley is I'm not getting one so no worries.

I'ma stick with a Alta drop in, megan exhaust and suspension mods.

Just curious, why are you going with the drop in filter vs a full intake?

From what......a max of 500 different posters. Out of how many modified MINI owners?

Anyway, minime02 you will see some benefits from the drop in filter. Very comparable to a full intake as there is really very little gain or difference between them.

Have fun on the modding road.

Air intakes still let hot air seep in which causes a decrease in performance, from what I've heard, even if they have a heat-shield.

A few folks have said that the oil from the cone filters on air intakes have fouled their MAF sensors however Matt has told me the 02's don't have MAF...

Drop in is cheaper than an intake and is the better buy considering I'm only going to see about a 5HP increase at 5k+ rpm with an intake. Although, I think I'll still get better throttle response with intake vs. drop in.

I don't know. I've gotten so many mixed responses and advice. I still might get an intake and if I do, it's either going to be the AFE or DDM but as of now, I'm leaning towards an ALTA drop in.

One change that may make a big differance is getting lighter rims. Some MINI OEM rims are nearly ledgendary for their weight. Just a thought....but since it is so hard to make HP in a Cooper, why not make your car lighter? Same net effect.

I was just surprised because an intake is probably the only mod that will provide you with any power gains on an R50, and you said you were after power. I really don't think you will see much of a gain with the drop in filter. CAI's have been the best selling N/A mods for years, because they are the only things that actually.

If for nothing else, you will get a great sound out of it.

I DEFINITELY noticed some power when I installed my alta CAI on my R53 last week. For the extra 100 bucks, I would really go for it.

+1 CAI
if the drop-in's were just as good, the CAI would never had been invented.

The gains on an R50 are so similiar that the additional cost really isn't woth it unless you want the sound that an intake will give you. I assume you have tried them on an R50? Thus you have first hand experience?

The Alta drop-in is a great product. You really want to make sure that you oil it properly. It is very easy to over-oil it because it is foam. Most times they come shipped with too much oil. Just take some paper towels and squeeze out the extra before installing. After cleaning only use enough oil to get the foam tacky. You don't need to soak it.

Have fun!

I'm sorry but on a Cooper R50 non S the Cold air intake can make a huge difference. It's the biggest bang for the buck mod you can do for just a cooper. People with the Way/DDM intake always comment on how much better the throttle responce is and I also have the dyno sheets showing the gains on the site.

So what kind of comparisons can you offer? How much more HP than the drop-in?

I have ridden/driven in a quite a few with both types and really noticed very little difference.

So it's ok to believe second hand experience for intakes but not crank pullies?

The key difference is that there are first hand experiences on NAM for intakes, but no first hand experiences on NAM for pulleys.
