Electrical Gremlins

2nd time posting this question with a little update.

Hopefully someone has an answer....

I have an 02 with a few gremlins.

None of them are steady, but they are consistently the same ones. Either individually or all together.

1. The car won't start. Turning the key enough times may prove succesful.

2. The airconditioning panel goes blank, along with no air.

3. No air conditioning at all (panel works).

4. The radio goes out.

5. The airbag light comes on.

6. The front and rear windshield wipers start on their own (can't be turned off).

7. This one just happened today, The drivers side door won't unlock with the remote.

For the last two days, all seems to be working fine, but the door lock started today.

I've searched the forums, and have already replaced the battery, and had the electrical system checked at Sears, with no results.

I looked under the hood by the passenger side and checked the ground cable for the starter and it was secure.

HOWEVER, I found the harness next to that ground strap chafed and a couple of wires exposed. They are the brown and yellow wires that are pigtailed together. I don't know what they are (attached pics are of those wires). I haven't re wired, but I managed to separate them so as to make sure they don't touch each other.

When in doubt check the grounds. In the MINI brown=ground.

After a few weeks with this problem, I finally got fed up and took it to the dealer.

I had looked and couldn't find any faulty wiring, or any other problem, along with "my guy" who is my regular mechanic.

I was trying to avoid it, but I was advised that the dealer would be the only ones that could probably help.

Well, I saved up some $$$ and went.

I was told that the starter had an internal short circuit and was causing the problem.

One of my problems was that the car would not turn over on the first try. This was not related to the starter though (or so I was told).

So, a starter and an ignition switch later, all is good. Three days into having the car back...

Thanks everybody for your input!!!
