Loose Toggles

Hi All,

A couple of days ago I got into my '03 MCS, fired her up and started motoring but when I reached over to lower the windows I felt the toggle switches go down but they didn't make the familiar click noise and the windows didn't drop. At a light I looked down while pressing on the toggles and noticed that they all moved as one. Looking closer and feeling around behind the panel it appears that toggle box has become separated from the front panel.

Has anyone heard of this happening before? I searched the forums but I couldn't find anyone who had reported similar. Does anyone know how the toggle box is attached? I'm hoping it's just a screw or two that's come loose. I assume if I remove the side pillar covers I'll be able to see how everything is mounted and possibly figure out how to fix it.

Thanks,
Ryan

You are correct, remove the downtubes and you will see some screws... hopefully they are just loose and nothing is broken or stripped.

I have seen the switch unit just come apart... if you reach under the switches from behind and pull the back towards you it should snap together. If it continues to happen just a simple dab of super glue will hold that together.

Turns out a couple of the retaining clips had broken off at some point, possible while I was trying to reattach it before I took the console apart. I didn't have any glue I thought would work so I used some heavy duty tape to get things snugly put back together.

Cheers!

I use black electrical tape and it works pretty well.
