Study #2: Post Warranty Repairs / Costs

Tell me what failed on your Mini and what it cost to repair after the 50,000 mile warranty expired? Like last time, please don't repeat what someone else posted. I am looking to create a list of the different of post warranty failures and the cost to fix 'em.

Thanks everyone!

Still waiting for warranty to expire, but front bumper replaced at $2,800, entire clutch flywheel (near four grand) and engine harness done. Not Cheap. And Rotors and pads like $1,200
I got 2006 MCS

Air conditioning compressor replaced because the clutch is not available separately. $1450.

Crank pulley fine at this point.
Radiator fans sometimes stay on but tapping the fan relay gets it to stop.

I am not counting tires, brakes and oil which are routine and I do myself.

Artoo now has 91,000 miles and I still love driving it.

Are you considering an extended warranty. A few costly parts which have been known to problematic (S/C, radiator, A/C, Clutch, P/S pump) can easily add up. I'm considering an extended warranty from a Mini dealer.

Months - Expires - Extend to - Miles/Yr - Cost - Cost/10k
48 - 2014 - 75,000 - 10,750 - $1,501 - $334
60 - 2015 - 75,000 - 8,600 - $1,838 - $408

or...

48 - 2014 - 85,000 - 13,250 - $1,764 - $321
60 - 2015 - 100,000 - 13,600 - $2,609 - $373

The ragtop fabric is NOT covered but its mechanical parts are. Sucks since it's about $3k to replace but my insurance policy does cover it (damage by theft and vandalism only).

You guys think it's worth it?

Will a dealer sell an extended warranty when the car is not new? We go out of warranty in a few months. What do I ask for when I call and whom do I ask for at the dealership?

I call two dealers and told the receptionists I needed quotes for extended warranty, which is usually taken cared by the Finance department.

They will ask for your VIN # and give you a few options. Remember that they can make almost (and sometimes more than) 100% profit. So haggle like there's no tomorrow.
