R50/53 Gas tank volume > 13.2 gallons ???
i accidently over filled a couple months ago... Pump clicked off, thought i had bumped it off myself, so kept filling and Gurgle spillll . Only spilt a couple ounces, but it did go over :( yet to do it since! and no problems either.
We got 14.6 gallons in yesterday, it was also after a track day, it clicked down to zero miles as we came off. We headed straight to the pump on site.
$5/gal, rather than $4 I payed at my normal place. 91 octane, I didn't look at the price of the 100 octane they had on offer.
That's downright cheap for on track gas!
According to the Bible!
Bentley states for all Gen One Cooper S Minis,
13.2 US Gallons or 50 litres
2.1 US Gallons reserve or 8 litres
Giving tank capacity of 15.3 US gallons.
Fuel pump will be damaged if you run it without fuel, again a quote from the bible. So beware of sampling the swill at the bottom of the tank!!!!

Never worry about the swill... that's what the filter is there for.
I've always thought that 13.2 gallons include the reserve 2.1. My other cars are designed that way. Anyhow, my Mini has no problem with 14.7 gallons w/o going empty.

If the tank is 13.2 US gal. , how are Nam'ers pumping well over 14 US gallons????
Standing in swill I say!!!
Now, if we're talking Imperial gallons, well, time to go back to the scratch pads!
But back to the facts, Bentley does state 13.2 US Gal. tank, I assumed if you can pump well over 14 US gal. then the reserve must be added volume.

or your gas bars are making a nice premium!

Further.....Cadenza stated he/she pumped 14.7 US gal. Didn't mention pushing to the pumps.....so we can guess we're somewhere north of 14.7....sounds pretty close to 13.2 plus the reserve 2.1, that is if the Bentley specs are correct.
I tend towards when I get close to 1/4 tank, time for a fill up.....cost averaging?
Anyho, great luck in seeing how many gallons you can squeeze into your tanks!

The range was telling me there was 30 miles left when I left work, and it took usually 20 miles to get home, but my Mini failed me at about 18th mile and that feeling sucked!
The engine just shuts down and I had to put in neutral to slide to the side of the one lane road during rush hour...I was so worried that passer-bys could easily scratch my mirror so I stood behind my Mini directing traffic until AAA came...
Lesson from my story: Don't rely on the range reader. Go Get some gas !

why would you believe you could get to your destination just because your range meter was saying so!!! I'm trying to say this in the most positive manner but......."think about it" be responsible don't set yourself up to run out of gas...and cause an accident!

The range might say 30 miles, but that is based on driving conditions up to that point. If you run into delays like heavy traffic, stoplights, etc. the range will drop quickly.
Yeah, don't rely on the range counter. It is only consistent if you're driving at a constant speed and on a flat road. It's all over the place when you're in stop-n-go traffic and/or driving on hilly terrain.
That said, I've gone into the '---' territory 3 times before arriving at the gas station w/o running out of fuel. Just damn lucky, I guess. The most I've pumped into 1 tank is 14.7 gallons. I've pumped between 14.0 and 14.5 gallons many times. So I suspect the REAL volume of the tank is 15.3 gallons (13.2+2.1).

I usually fill when the red light first comes on, at which point the counter indicates I have about 60 miles that I can go further (that sounds close to the 2 gallon reserve)
Usually that's at about 360ish or a little more miles on the tank, and it usually takes between 12 or 13 gallons (sometimes a little more) depending on how much highway vs. city miles I got, and also how much I was smiling as I dug my foot into the throttle.
