Oil Filters

Ok, ive heard stories of different oil filters. My question is: is there a difference between an 03 S and an 04 non S model oil filter? We were given the same filters for both of our cars. The 03S was done without an issue, but am concerned after hearing conflicting info about the non S 04.

ALL {US} first generation MINI use the same oil filter.

S and non 02 thru 06, and the 'vert thru 08.

go to MOSSMINI.COM and search for oil filters to confirm.....

I believe the HOUSING that the filter goes into IS different; but the FILTER is the same...the base the housing screws to appears different - to wit issues with a plastic check valve some have managed to break off... You re-use the housing, changing the paper element and the o-ring.

Don't know the official nomenclature for the plastic support and the spring in the non s filter but previous reading highly suggests that you do not throw those items away inadvertently with the old filter or you'll be in deep kimchi.
