When I first looked at an S in person, I noticed that the petrol cap looked like it was designed to have a lock and in-car release, but when I asked the salesman, he knew (much) less about the car than I did. He said that he didn't think the cap locked. Can someone with an S tell me if the cap locks, and if not, is it easy to fit a lock to the cap. I'm thinking about the chrome cap, not the actual twist-off cap that attaches to the pipe.

I haven't noticed it on the S yet(haven't tried it) but the Cooper locks when you lock the doors. I would imagine the S does as well but I am too lazy to walk down and try it!!!

The chrome cap on the S is actually a cover. My wife tried to twist it off the first day. It does indeed lock when you lock the doors.
