Hello people,

I'm enjoying my new 2003 black on black MCS but i don't really know much about cars. I'm kinda worried because i'm still breaking in my MCS and as i was taking her for a drive today i glanced @ my speedo to find out that i reached the speed of 120Km/h

project_wonderboy,
Aloha and welcome to MCO-
I think if you have done this only once it is not a big deal and you are still fine.
Keep rpms to about 4000-4500 max and speeds under control to 1250 miles and you'll be all set.
Plenty of time later for more action and fun.
You're doing great. you didn't mention how many miles you have on your MCS.
In the beginning the clutch, brakes and tires all need to break in over 300 miles or so.
Enjoy.

Hey Blk_MCS, thanks also

I'm just glad to know my MCS is alright. But yeah, it seems the "break-in" period will be ok. I mean i've been driving the MCS in variable speeds and revs so (fretting i've done harm to my baby )

But thanks guys for the info and rest assured this MCS will have a good owner

I do hope you read that stuff, but at this point (925km) it doesnt really matter, except that you would have 1075kms more to play with . Now you're tempted, tomorrow you'll come back and post that you red lined it (I already have quite a few times ) and are now going to drive it like it's meant to! It doesnt matter either way, as long as you are having fun in and love your MINI.

I did some similar things during break-in and am not worried. At pick-up my MA told me not to take it over 45000 rpms or over 95 mph (about 100 kms?). I laughed and said I never drive that way and didn't understand why he reacted with a barely contained smirk. On the 3 hour trip back from Chicago I found it easy to cruise at 90 mph if I failed to watch the speedo. (By the way, he also said it is good to vary speed during break-in so not to use cruise control.)

Then I had to show off once pulling out from a stop sign and took her over the taboo 45000 rpms. BUT I was good the rest of the time so really doubt I've harmed the engine.

Looking at those threads you will notice this is about as controverial a topic as whether to wait until the BMW recommended oil change. I don't pretend to know squat personally about such things. I did ask a mechanic I trust who owns a couple of BMRs. His advice: don't get overly hung up about a few break-in indiscretions, but don't buy the break em in rough stuff. Also, he said with synthetic oil he thinks it ok to change oil early but probably a waste of money.

I'm with you about this site being great. I really feel it gives a chance to be informed and part of a great community. Also, I love Australia and appreciate "mates" from down under (and other places too) are cyber neighbors!
Enjoy!
