Do you think the MINI Cooper S is the fastest MINI (without mods)?

I thought I remembered someone saying that the great and knowledgable Randy had found that the BRG's tend to show a little more hp on the dyno. . . . .

Righto! Chili read is the hottest color so it, by it's fiery nature, is the fastest one. BRG is a nice color but the metallic weights it down.

it's a good thing we're not in some rice rocket forum... because you'd get a reply saying "it doesn't matter, as long as it has stickers"
*sigh*... the sad reality of automobiles

haha

Both the MC and MCS top out at 135mph due to the ecu. BRG feels faster tho.

Hey Twominis, where did you get the Union Jack sticker - looks great on CR (the fastest color by the way!)?

I'm serious - the BRG on the dyno has always had a bit more power than any other color! We tested several cars on the same day on the same dyno, and the BRG cars both made more power than any of the other cars. Fluke, or reality????

As far as the numbers for the stock cars go:

MC

0-60 8.4 seconds
Top Speed (manual) 124 MPH

MCS

0-60 6.9 seconds
Top Speed 136 MPH

Randy

It's hard to argue with your dyno numbers Randy, but they don't take into consideration the aerodynamic superiority of the color Chilli Red!

the dyno numbers don't tell the whole story, because in reality Pepper White is the fastest color, here's why:

As you drive your car (usually outside) the powertrain and sun will heat up the vehicle, or at least try to. White is the most heat-reflective (or least-absorbant) of any "color", therefore it will remain cooler, naturally. Why do you care about temperature? Well, engine power is a function of oxygen reacting with a fuel. The cooler the surrounding air, the more dense it is, resulting in, you guessed it, more oxygen in the air. The higher amount of oxygen allows the computer to pump in more fuel via the injectors, therefore creating a bigger "Ka-blamo" and viola, more power. More power allows you to cut through the relatively high drag coefficient of the MINI's brick-shape and provides higher speed, therefore, the fastest MINI!

Summary:
White = cooler temperature
cooler temprature = denser air
denser air = more oxygen
more oxygen + more fuel = more power
more power = higher speed

So all you dyno-smoking BRG's out there, keep your MINI out of the sun, especially when there's a Pepper White lurking!

This is the fastest MINI:

I haven't heard of any other ones hitting 109 mph in the 1/4 mile.

I would have to agree with the pepper white argument - hehehe...additionally it is non metalic so in theory should be lighter paint.....I remember reading an article about the Jag F1 team - they tested over 30 types of paint and shades of green to get the lightest combination....I'm sure that weight saved by the non metallic paints is food for atleast .0001 of a second

Ryan, you've got to much time on your hands. Time to get out of the Neon and back into a MINI.

That's not the *real* reason PW is fastest. I mean; the air entering the intake on a stock S flows over maybe 2 inches of body-colored bonnet. Doubt there's much temp difference between the body colors...

On the *other* hand, it could be argued that by being light colored and highly reflective, the PW experiences much less thermal expansion than other colors. Net result is that darker colors "expand" more, are therefore larger, and thus have to push more air out of the way. Ergo: PW is fastest!

Or, maybe it's the other way, and the linear expansion of the dark colors nose-to-tail helps them cut down on drag caused by the low pressure zone behind the boot. Kind of in the same fashion that a long truck will experience less tail-drag than a short stubby one. Yeah, that's it! PW is SLOWEST!

This physics stuff gives me a headache.

I'm waiting for the Zaino crowd to chime in on how any color can be made faster via high reflectivity and slippery surface coefficients; all from a product that can't weigh anything after being applied because when it's put on right you can't see it!

By the same standards... Light colors generally require more coats of application to cover. The paint depth could therefore be thicker on PW.
