R50/53 Automatic climate control switch

Automatic climate control switch
My 2002 r50 MINI has auto climate control. The automatic climate control switch only responds to pressure on the right side. the light gos on and off but nothing on the left side. Now spring pressure no light nothing. Is this normal?
