New owner

Hi,

Ive been lurking the forums here and there, and i finally jumped the gun and got a MINI.

2005 MCSa, PW/PW, only 18k miles.

Any suggestions for a new owner?

Also quick question, is it possible to get a MFSW and install it myself? or is that something a dealer would have to do?

Don't know about the MFSW, sorry, but I'm sure someone around here can help you.

Welcome to NAM from Madison, WI. I like the look of your new ride. You will name it, right? I traded a 06 Dodge Magnum R/T AWD for my Capt'n Jack, a 2006 BRG/Silver MCc with Premium, Navigation and manual in January and have absolutely no regrets. Keep smiling, you'll like it here, alot of good folks with a passion and mucho knowledge about all the MINI models.

What a great buy! I would'a bought that one in a minute. It's almost exactly like mine (mine's a manual).
I wouldn't attempt to change the steering wheel because of the airbag... best left to the pro's, I guess.
Congrats on the new ride, you're gonna love it!

Welcome and congratulations! That car is beautiful and in mint condition! You will love it and the Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission with the steering wheel paddles is a jewel.

Yes you can retrofit the MFSW and if you have the skill level + tools you maybe able to do it yourself. However, it is likely that some DME reprogramming is involved and you may need to have this part of the installation completed by either the dealer or an independent BMW/MINI mechanic that possesses a GT-1 handheld computer (It plugs underneath the dashboard on the driver's side).

It is a little labor intensive but I don't think it is that bad.

Here is the official MFSW retrofit guide from MINI:

http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/MFSW.PDF

Note: This guide applies to the older R50 and R53 MINI models manufactured between 2002 and 2004 with the 2 spoke steering wheel. However, this will give you a clear picture of what is involved in the MFSW retrofit process.
