We've read about how quick the MINI is around the cones. It was one of the main points of the early reviews in the automotive press. And we all know from our own experiences that the MINI is wickedly fast in the twisties. But having witnessed a rookie post progressively quicker times that end up putting him near the top of his class and within a couple of seconds of extensively prepared cars driven by drivers with years of experience, I am in awe!

It reminded me of my days on the horse show circuit, when you would see the horses with great ability literally chomping at the bit, raring to go. Calm and collected on the outside, but with a fire in their eyes that told you that someone was in for one hell of a ride, if they could hang on.

Sunday was like that, as was last Saturday on Hankered Road. There was the MINI, our friendly mount, waiting patiently in the paddock. But once at the starting gate, with the revs up, the hidden beast came alive! Bolting out of the starting gate and attacking the course like a great Eventer. Clawing through the turns. Sprinting down the straights. Making the chicane that had tortured so many that went before, seemingly disappear.Taking the driver up to the edge. Showing him how to do it and how to get more. Never rattled. Always composed. Always ready to give. Like an old school horse with a secret personality.

MINI is indeed a great mount and has taught me that I need to go back to school so that I may be worthy of finding the limits of this noble steed.
