I agree it should be totaled, but it's pretty amazing what they can do with badly damaged cars. I had mine done at German Motors Collision center in San Francisco, and by the time they were done with it it actually handled better than before.. Seems unlikely, but the first time I had it at Infineon after the crash, I could tell right away it was a better handling car. The guys told there frame machine was pretty amazing, and proved it.

This cost 18K. I told my insurance guys to total it but they insisted it would only cost 6k. Ended up costing more than I paid for it new. Yours looks like it took a pretty hard hit.
Holy Moly! $18K???!!!

I was hoping that mine was totaled, so I could begin the search for a replacement. I'm sure that the car will never be the same after the kind of damage it's got.

I'm waiting to hear back from a highly-recommended shop in Chicago; I'm out in Farm Country, and there's nobody locally who I would trust.
Maybe this other guy might concur that it's totaled, and I can go back and talk to my agent a bit, using his opinion as ammunition.
That said, I've had State Farm forever, and they've always been great to me.

Generally its a cost thing rather than IF someone could fix it. Normally if its going to cost more than half the value of the car its totaled. Each has its own percentage but it is probably in your interest to let them total it. The problem with fixing it is, that if you sign off, and something crops up later your screwed.

only the suspension on the car was fixed and straightened 13k.
Make sure they check to see if the chassis is true still....

I agree press to have the car totaled. It will never be the same, no matter how good they fix it.

The scroll type SC was only available with the inline 4. They dropped it in favor of the VR6 later.

And it isn't completely dead for the US, still a small chance it could make it over.

Yeah I read last night that VW may reconsider bringing back the Scirocco to the US market. Originally they cited issues with currency exchange rate and fear that it may eat away current VW GTI sales (The Scirocco seems to me a superior car to the current GTI).

If they do bring it back, it will be priced higher than the VW GTI.

I think the new Scirocco is a true successor of the old Corrado.

Amen! I sold those wheels just a short time ago, and put on some cheapie "Drags".

I'll let you know about the grill.

The car just left on a flatbed, for the dealership in Schaumburg. I'm hoping like heck that it'll end up being totaled; but we'll see.

Good news!
The tech from Patrick MINI just called to tell me that they uncovered a LOT of previously unseen structural and suspension damage, and the adjuster from State Farm will be giving me a call soon, with the news that the car is totaled.

Now I'll be able to start shopping for that new Cayman S!
(Not really; but I may take a drive over to the city when I get some time, and look at the new MINI inventory )

I can't take anything off the car now, other than personal property; the only thing on it that's mine is the rear license plate.

State Farm plans to pick up the car from the dealership tomorrow.

Tell ya what; it's easy to be positive about these things when the kid is able to walk away from the wreck unhurt, and the insurance company treats me this good!
They're going by the NADA value, giving me the sales tax based on the car value, and giving me half of what I paid for the new (cheapo "Drag") wheels.

Total payment will be around $21K!
Now if only my wife would give me the green light to go shopping; she wants to be without a car payment for a while, and I can't blame her. I'm still gonna do some "window shopping", though!

I had a bumper accident that was very minor, had to have the bumper replaced and the hood painted. Hood because my plate hit the other drivers wheel, plate flew up and dented my roof. This ended up costing around $5,000. So you have at least that with your bumper. Part cost are crazy the plastic license frame was going to be $60 so I said leave that out and I used the rest of the insurance money to by a "no holes." Airbags=very expensive. Someone in my MINI club just tapped another MINI's rear and it set off the bags, she needed just a refinish to her bumper and airbags ~$7,000. Now you have the hood, wheel, suspension so say another at least $3,000. I bet you are looking at ~$15,0000 or more.

Always glad to see another happy State Farm customer.

Doug, thanks for all those years of being a loyal customer.

Ps. Glad I could return the favor and give you some of my money for that great R50 CVT shift ****.

My pleasure! I've always enjoyed excellent customer service from them.

I was a bit surprised when my homeowners insurance covered a circuit board in one of my CNC machines few years ago, when a lightning strike hit.
As I recall, the board was around $1200-$1500. I was more than happy to pay my deductible amount!

Funny... I find a lot of times people are not aware that their loss would be covered under their policy, homeowners or auto. They end up paying for things that they don't need to pay for.

Again, glad you've had good experiences with SF and thanks for being a long-time policyholder, Doug.
