clipped my passenger side front end (at 5-10mph) on the rear bumper of a ford focus today and put a gnarly dent at front fender, cracked my AC Scnitzer bumper and trashed the fender molding. The hood is a little jacked up on the passenger side (but still opens/closes) and the it looks a little warped around the headlight now. no mechanical/electrical damage.

at the least i forsee a new AC Schnitzer front bumper and possibly a new hood (and maybe new headlight if it's jacked and not just the hood).

i'm thinking probably $2000 in parts, labor and paint. your thoughts???

and yeah - i'm all kinds of pissed and like an hour later a guy driving without his lights on in a parking lot almost hit me!

I'm sure you'll get a better answer from someone that's actually had those parts replaced, but $2000 seems a little low to me. One of my friends had her hood and front bumper repainted (no accident damage, just some irreparable paint flaws), and the bill was about $1300. That's with no new parts and no removal/replacement labor charges like you'll be looking at with a new hood and bumper.

I don't know how much the AC Schnitzer bumper costs, but a replacement OEM hood is $500 from Pelican Parts and a replacement OEM front bumper is about $250.

Sorry to hear about your accident man. Unfortunately, it's gonna cost you more than that I think. ACS front bumpers retail just over $1100 from CEC last time I checked. Hopefully your insurance will cover most of your costs. It may be cheaper to repair the bumper. Best of luck to you Mach!

Sorry about your accident. Back in Oct. I hit a vehicle with our Mini. My speed was appx. 5-8 MPH. Damage to the Mini was the front Bumper. The entire Bumper assembly had to be Replaced. Total Cost was $1,000.00. The other vehicle a Subaru sustained appx. $ 400.00 in damage. The accident was my Fault.However my insurance Company paid for Damages & did not charge me the Deductable because of accident forgivness. No accident in 17 years. Happy about that.

I had a fender bender on Valentines Day. I was going about 24mph and collided into the rear of a truck w/hitch. (Sudden stop) Ok so I get out after the shock of airbags heating up my wrist. (yes they're hot) I saw that my hood and front bumper cover were damaged. No leaks involved. Long story short the "Fender bender," turned out to be over $9000.00.

My wallet is still in shock.

i'm hoping insurance doesn't give me a hassle about the AC SChnitzer part since it's a factory installed piece. I'm more concerned about the hit my insurance rates take

How did you get an ACS bumper from the factory?

i bought car from orig owner - he bought it with kit on it (or so i was told). so term "factory installed" may not be the most correct one, but to my knowledge the car entered life on the streets with the ACS kit on it. I bought it with 6500mi on the odometer approx 2.5 yrs after orig owner bought it. that person used a leasing company to market the car and i was told the car came from SEMA.

obviously what i'll explain to insurance company if i get any hassle is that i purchased the car and they insured the car with the kit on it, thus i expect it to be replaced to my original, pre-accident condition.

Talk to your insurance agent and get the damages professionally appraised. It is very difficult to estimate damages since we haven't seen photos of the affected areas and have no idea on labor/parts costs and if there is any additional "hidden" damage that will be revealed during the teardown.

My similar accident was double that in cost. A lot of the stuff in the engine compartment is made to breakaway (read; cheap plastic) so in addition to the hood and bumper I also needed a new radiator mount and halogen headlamp. mounting brackets on both snapped.

Easily $4,000 (at a dealer, at least).

I speak from experience. Hood and grilles were replaced, factory bumper was refinished and repainted, radiator supports were replaced (which requires emptying, removing, reinstalling and refilling the AC unit). Cost was around $4,500 (through the other driver's insurance). This was at a BMW dealer's shop, where my car lived for 6 weeks last year.

Parts are inexpensive (I think the hood was under $500), but there are a million screws and clips and other parts that need to be uninstalled and reinstalled, and each one has a time associated with it. Plus, they have to blend the new paint all the way back into the doors, so it goes beyond just a hood repair.
