Speaking of MINI sounds that I love...

does anyone else LOVE the sound of the supercharger whistling upon low RPM decelleration (~2500 RPM)? I love driving in enclosed areas with the windows down just to hear it!!

Wow, either I'm missing something or I'm going deaf. Perhaps I'm just used to it now but I don't notice a whine. I will have to pay attention this afternoon on the way home from work. Is this just when you turn corners or on curves, too.

I feel like I'm out in left field without a glove.

Maybe the stock air flow needs some help.
You can either install an alta intake with Hose or
Do the Webbmotorsport Airbox mod with some form of large intake upgrade like the pilo or Madness intake.
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ic=4301&46

Then you WILL hear the screaming whine from the air intake from inside the car esp with the windows down. It is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Nobody has the control to hit to left field so just pull up a chair and get comfortable.

I really don't care what people think of me.

From reading the replies, I have to stress. I love the sound of the Mini, the engine that is. I'm talking about the loud, electric power sterling, when turning hard when barely moving.

I don't like to draw attention to the Mini, when it's "Oh god, what is that horrible noise". People judge cars on looks, handling, and sound.

The power steering is loud, sounds week, and when being used, you can't even hear the car.

I also can back this up, the top 5 complaints included the Power Steering noise. In fact, Mini called me diretly when I go the car and told me about it....they call it a Nuance (I dont know how to spell it).

As for turning in front of people, Maybe I should let the Power Steering scare people off, less people would buy a Mini....keeping my unique

<<<It's amazing how many people here make comments, like I love it, it's part of the Mini charm. I'm amazed how many people are so hung up on protecting Mini faults or little issues. It's a car, and it can be improved. I myself think it has very little faults, that's why I bought it. But it can be improved.>>>

I'm not incapable of admitting the MINIs faults--if you doubt this, just check out the stumble thread. I think the take home message here is that it's seriously not a big deal. And if you're all worked up about your car not sounding "expensive", perhaps you could take a moment to explain to the vast majority of double-takers that you have an extra little motor controlling your power steering--one they probably don't have. Then everyone can rest assured that your car isn't cheap. Or you could buy a big window decal that advertises this fact.

I can't stress to you enough just how bizarre you sound when you say you're too insecure to turn in front of people. Have you said that out loud? Cause maybe then the silliness would hit... Whatever you do, please don't stress because other people aren't stressing--life is just toooooo short!

Just 3 words ToeKnee.

I Love It!

I love the sound of the power steering motor. And am totally amazed at your insecurity. Nobody has ever commented to me, "Oh god, what is that horrible noise". You call it a fault? I call it UNIQUE and VERY COOL.

>>OmToast,
>>I agree to a point. I guess my problem is, the whine makes the the car sound cheap. And I don't like that image.

No. I am not afraid to turn. That is why I love the MINI.

If your car is making an unusual for MINI noise, get it fixed. If not, get over it, or sell it. It's easy ToeKnee!

I read your post before I picked up my MCS, and when I got it I listened for the sound and it sounds really cool, I like the noise that happens when the car goes off and about 2 seconds afterwards it sounds like a vaccum turning off or something, maybe it's the fan.

It seems to get louder with time....or its my imagination. I have to stress this is at slow speeds, like from a dead stop and turning hard.
First of all, you shouldn't be turning the wheel when your car is at a dead stop. This puts A LOT of strain on your steering rack. The car should always be moving albeit slightly when turning.

I don't give a &%$* what others think of the sound of the power steering unit, neither should you. Its my car and I love it.
I couldn't have said it better myself, TwoMINI's! Why do you care what others think? Are you a teenager by any chance? No offense by that - really I'm serious. But unless you're under 20 when what everyone thinks is ALL that matters, why would ANYTHING anyone else thinks matter at all???

Minihune - Laurie is talking about the whine of the electric power steering, NOT the supercharger whine!
NO ONE is THAT deaf!

Uhh. I might be; or might have been. Before putting the ALTA intake on, I really had a hard time finding the SC whine. Not anymore! Now it's any excuse for a WOT run just to listen to the SC scream! If someone poked a hole through the walls of hell, the damned souls inside might make just such a noise! Gives me the shivers, and I might just run out and hop in the car right now to hear it again...

Gotta run.

An Addict.

PS: Is there a 12 step program for curing MINI addiction?

PPS: If there is, I don't ever want to come within 200miles of it!
