the 1.6 is pretty shoe horned in there. They already sacrificed the power steering using a smaller electric module for it. I dont think they could fit much more in there. The jcw package should just be stock, thats about where ur asking to be at, you mod that one a little bad and youll be stomping ppl.

theres still room for a 2.0 easily. they can just design it a little wider, it's only 4 litres.

it would be nice to have the JCW power in the stock S. But then that would mean JCW would have to go back to the R&D board and make some major changes. (pressure is a good thing in my book)

Maybe an updtated version of the old S14-B20 detuned M engine, off the Italia/Portugal spec 320is with 192hp for the MINI Cooper S, the euro spec E30 M3's S14-B23 engine at 215hp for the MINI JCW and the S14-B25 euro spec engined E30 M3 Sport Evo's 238hp for the MINI GP would have been nice.

I think that BMW chould have put something larger in the car.....then getting big numbers out of the engine would be a lot easier. But at the same time the 1.6l does pack a big punch....if you do modest mod's to the engine the horsepower to liter ratio is very high and respectable to a lot of other fast cars on the streets today.
A 2l would be nice.....but doesn't that take away some of the reason that we all bought MINI's instead of STI's, EVO's, and SRT-4's? People expect those cars to be fast....but when you see a MINI snap the speedo of the line it's going to turn a lot more heads! IMO
With the mods that I've done to my car already I have been able to make people do double takes....can't wait to get my car on the road after I get the cam, injectors, and a good tune! Then EVO's beware!!! hahahaha

My mods are in my sig.

I agree, it would be nice if they bored out the engine another tenth of a litre or 4 :-) but even with the small 1.6, this is a great car. probably the best handling FWD car I've ever been in, and can handle the power I see people with. so many people with other cars run into problems with adding hp. WRXs have glass trannys, SRTs cant get the tires to connect. I have to say, Im a pretty happy camper

Yeah, maybe 3 times more expensive and more maintenance cost too. But you can get 300hp plus naturally aspirated S14 powerplant.

Yeah...I mean of course you could do an engine swap. But then you have to do new tranny, engine mounts, and basically rework everything about the front end. IMO if you were to do a stroker MINI it would be more effective for the layout of the car. And that's something that everyone knows works.

True....but the Silvia only used a 2L. I still think that a stroked 1.6L is the best method if you want something thats going to be bigger displacement and better power while saving on weight.

ok well 2l it is........... honestly i cant ask for more i was running with an 05 m3 today damn near neck and neck, only from a roll not a digg, but still for a 1.6l it packs a punch. Its not even a straight line car on top of that

It is fun to keep up with the m3 crowd that's for sure. But once I get all done with the work on my car I'm thinking that that bimmer crowd might be in for a surprise.....might even notice a big difference once I get my clutch broken in my car will act more like it should have. I was shocked to see how shot my clutch disk was when Danny showed me! It was basically disintegrating.....but no more slipping makes my car much more happy, even with light shifts!

I've heard talk about pulleys - What are they? What do they do? How to change them? What's the low down on these?

Thanks.

Pullies on the R53....Mrk 1 cooper s.....reduce the size of the supercharge pulley and make it spin faster, which creates more power and boost through the compressor, and an overdrive crank pulley will also add to that increased spinning of the supercharger. All in all it equals good times and lumps of power compaired to stock. Also changing out the crank pulley drops about 6-7 pounds of rotational mass from the drive line which means that things rev up quicker.
As for the install on these I'd say go to a shop to get it done....best way to even get to them is to jack up the engine, but then again you can take out the fender well and whats in the way there.
Are you looking to swap out your crank pulley? Since your car isn't a supercharged car you wouldn't have a supercharger pulley.
