+1

If you aren't used to all the grip off the line in a WRX, you'll bog it like you won't believe. Even against a WRX with a proper tune (they're sensitive when morons throw on CAIs and such), an S or JCW wouldn't stand a chance, without stuff done to them. At Hangover Fest on 1 Jan 09, I got my stock 06 WRX wagon to go 13.7 @ 97mph.

My gas light was on and no spare tire are what I attribute the time to. lol, I'd never spun all 4 coming off the line till that day, it was freakin cold!!!

But, despite the power deficite, I still think our cooper would be faster round an AutoX. We'll find out for sure this spring.

I don't care which is faster, but think they are probably pretty darn close.

Now, smokin' 'em through the twistes is a whole 'nuhter thang.
Maybe they suck at driving? It's always a tossup between actual power and driving being the key factor when you don't know the guy (or gal).

One thing I can say about the WRX and EVO guys around my part, they are humble as Hell. I've never once had one of them disrespect my car and they are always really cool.

My husband has a '98 Corvette and there's no way my Mini could keep up in a straight line. The "mid life crisis in the new corvette" was being merciful.

tc-min wrote: But, if you and your MINI smoke or even keep even with a 1998+ Corvette in a straight line, it's either out of tune, the driver is a total doofus, or he's simply trying to make sure he doesn't get a racing ticket.

Haha. I knew that last one would get some attention.

Fortunately, we have some cool cops out here (tho many are not ha). In a neighbouring town, where my friend lives, I met one of these cops. He had a female cop in the car with him. I wonder if he was trying to impress her. But he revved his engine. Surprised me, really. Anyways, that's what happened.

We're talking a GT, not a GT500. Power to weight ratio is about the same. (200 whp vs. 255 whp). The GT shifted twice, I only had to shift once . That's where I got him. A properly tuned and slightly modded Gen2 JCW would have walked away. And yes, it takes some dyno work to get the tune right.

They never made a 1997 300ZXTT in the states. Last year was 1996.

Impressive resume - that's for sure. That's the kind of reply I had in mind.
Came across one of those Neon's on the FWY on the way home from work. It's not an attractive car at all.

Never said it was a GT500...My point is this, I had a Mustang GT which I recently sold. Stock form, its fast but if you can't drive you will lose cuz there is the hookup issue. It really doesn't take much to get a mustang to start eating. With the short list of engine mods I had, I could run with m3s and the like. I didn't walk away but they couldn't either.

uRabbit posted a realistic list of wins and losses for a MINI. I have seen races like that, hell, even been a part of a few. "The heart of the Gulf is racing" is what the large banner says outside the airport in Bahrain. Everybody does it. I saw an Astro van and a honda civic racing yesterday on the way to work...LoL
I don't judge my car from C&D, MT,0-60, Top Gear, or Automobile. I just go outside and get in it.
I have pitted my MINI against a few cars out here. There is so much highway here in Kuwait it is almost an Arabic Autobahn I have won races against a 08 Jag XK Droptop(yes the V8, itssurprising but Ford underpowered that car), suped up pickups, mostly the same cars I raced in my stang. Everyone sees the MINI and always wants to go on a highway run go figure. I went up against a 335i 2 weeks ago, and even when I gave the MINI everything he had in him, the 335i still literally "walked away" then started sprinting...lol...now same said 335i(another co-worker btw) couldn't do that to my Stang. I'm talking dead stop, straight line acceleration. Throw a few turns in there somewhere and I am positive the MINI would be right there with it. Driving is a hobby for me not a job so when I can go out to the races I do. I like to know where my mods get me in the real world. There isn't a real "road course" out here, so its always gonna be straight line for me until I get home. That being said, I love my MINI anyway, and wouldn't trade it for anything but an 06(last of the supercharged) That is my $.02

I thoroughly enjoyed reading that. Particularly the "I just go outside and get in it"part.

Shoot, go on ahead. I might join you all in there as a former R50 owner. I mopped up quite a few cars with that thing.

In reference to overtaking an STI i find that hard to believe. I now have an 07 STI and even a heavily modified MCS couldn't take it. That being said, i still love MCS and wish i could have both, i still miss mine from time to time.

I dont have a large list of people ive beaten or that have beaten me. I do however drive sick fast cars everyday. Ask one of the Moderators here CHRISMCS04. He had the pleasure of riding in a E46 M3 with me a while ago. thats just the tip of the iceberg. I drive 335s,135s,E60 M5s, E39 M5s, E90 M3s, and occasionally the oddball porche or AMG. Aside from not being able to afford half these cars, I honestly love the Mini. I feel that it is quite quick and with some modifications will be exactly where i want it. Im not saying it will ever beat a 335, but its still a whole lot of fun. I can probably trade it in and get something "faster" but thats not all there is to it. As i said, i drive really fast cars daily and theres just something i like about climbing into the Mini.
I believe alot has to do with drivers capabilities. I have been in the same car with 2 different drivers and one of them felt alot faster than the other. I seem to recall my service manager going autocrossing in his Z4M with a guy that owned a GP. He said that he was amazed because the GP was beating porches around the track. That had to make the porche guys a little red-faced
anyways straight line is for hillbillies. find a driving school and then youll really learn how to tear it up. Find out what your car was really made for.

I recently sold my 2007 STI limited which springs but otherwise was stock. I also just purchased what some might call a moderately modified '02 MCS JCW. I drove them both back to back at one point. I can tell you that my Mini could probably hang with my STI from a roll. From a stop the STI would smoke it. The Mini spins its tires in three gears while the STI would just have endless traction.

Has anyone had go 'round with one of Dodge Neon SRT4's? There's a kid with one on campus here, and I'm just curious about how fast these things really are.

they are quick. and can be easily modded to be even quicker. a stock srt4 is slower than a new mazdaspeed3 by a good bit. I have beat a stock one at the strip. but im not stock either.
