So I'm a Russian guy living in the States. I have a decent amount of Russian friends both here and back in the old country. They know I'm a car fiend. When they find out that I ordered a MINI, I get nothing but condescending smirks and remarks along the lines of "chick car", "log wagon", "cheap plastic shoebox", "buy a real car".

// I swear, if I hear "cheap plastic" as a description of interior of any car again, I'm going to tackle the *******. I've heard that remark about every make and model - from an $8K KIA to a $150K M6. That's the most subjective thing one can say about a car.

That corvette must a been POS. I don't know of too many MNI's that can beat a corvette, even modded MINI's. Maybe in severe twisties but if there is any straights look out. HP will win.

I don't like ricers. There are some very fast ricers out there. I got my butt kicked by a ricer and I was in my GTO. That really ticked me off.

But I have larned to lose gracefully. Age does that to you.

Wow, the VW guys down in the panhandle despise the ricers. Actually they despise any car not European, but mostly ricers. For me, it always seems to be some young guy in a WReX or Eclipse.

i guess females see all things they like as "cute" - the MINI is no exception. i think our society has dumbed down the ownership of a car to either a mechanical event as a tool to get a person from one destination to the other or as a piece of "bling" to either show off wealth or compensate for some shortcoming. it's like labelling every porsche 911 owner as either an arrogant ***** or an old guy going thru mid life crisis, every porsche boxster owner as a not so wealthy 911 wanna be driver, every sportbike/crotchrocket owner as blah blah blah.... it's hard for most people to grasp that some of us actually like to drive and some cars are actually fun and challenging to drive.

i've said it a ton of times here - the mcs is just as fun to drive (if not more) than my previous 330ci zph or boxster 987. with the boxster i'm sure everyone thought i was some rich punk (trust me, i'm not!!!) and with the bimmer (maybe because they're so prevalent here in soCal) everyone thought i was some arrogant sap. i miss the bmw - it was a beast of a car that actually had a subtle sneak up on you effect. it could be bitchin caynon carver or sweet ride to take out for a fancy date. with the mcs you always feel kinda like it's play time!!!!!! but oh well, i'm an eternal 14 year old!!!!

I've owned and driven a beautiful 240Z, a 944, and now the MINI - but I've never once been given more than a good look-over by ricers! Granted there aren't many around here, but I had always thought driving such cars would attract more crap. I'm not complaining though...

I agree totally with the wave / no-wave theory 4Boogie laid out though - Anybody who knows anything about the MINI knows it's tradition!

I just got my car today and so far I've gotten a couple of clown car comments, my mother-in-law hates me because we live in NE and I traded in my 4-door subaru legacy automatic for a 6-speed mini (I have a 3 y/o son) and she doesn't believe me that they're as safe as any other car. Safer than my legacy actually because it has more airbags. My boss is seriously jealous because he just bought a miniVAN. Everybody else just says "... but you're so tall..." I'm 6'4".

Nothing wrong with that I'm just saying.
I'm a girl, I think my car is cute and I wave!

i feel bad when i forget to wave and irritated when another Mini driver doesn't wave. Honda civic drivers don't do this (they gawk at each others cell/phone pagers, skanky girlfriends and then shoot each other over rims ), Hummer drivers don't do this (they gawk at each other's trophy bimbos and desire each others gold necklaces ), scooby drivers don't do this (they just lust after the other's big exhaust cans and monster rear spoilers )

the only other group of drivers/enthusiasts i've known to wave is motorcyclists - it's awesome!!!!

I know! This happened the other day, I was driving through the city and I passed a red MCS and waved, totally shut down. I was so angry. I live on a military installation and there are 6 of them on base, we are all pretty good at waving though, everyone always laughs when they are in the car and they see the MINI Wave.

Since I live in the middle of a state, there are very few MINIs. I bought the car since it was something that not everyone had. I like the rarity factor. I just made the car mine and personalized it to what I wanted. So I guess I was just making sure that I was happy with the car's image.

I had to buy the "it's not cute it's mean" t-shirt when I was at MOTD last year. I just hate when people say it is cute.

Most people think its a neat car

Except for one snippy smart mouth beetch I see at work occaisonally. She says "Its just the kind of car someone like you would drive", to which I replied, "Yeah, smart, savvy, cool, intelligent, and not an ignorant redneck dorkelle like you"........."like you" was under my breath. Didn't want an EEO complaint.
Most of the WOGS here drive big jacked up pickups. I was told that there is a study closely relating small genital size to large trucks, where the bigger the truck the smaller the-you-know-what. Fellow workers making up for their shortcomings?

What does "WOG" stand for in that context? Where I come from that's a rather offensive for a coloured person.

WOG stands for W(orkers) O(f) G(overnment). It is not in any way meant to be derogatory toward persons of colour. If I have offended anyone's sensitivity, I most humbly apologize...
Actually I think the French started the use of the name on the Suez canal back in the 1880s. The had shirts with the initials WOG on them made for the workers so they could identify them.
The "WOGS" I refer to at my location are rednecks.....

I wasn't offended, just surprised. I could tell it didn't mean that, I just couldn't work out what it did mean.

It's patently obvious the driver of the other MINI was a pinhead!

I was at McDonald's about 6 months back and this fairly portly guy (ok Im being polite he was a fat@$$, go figure was I was at McDonald's. Well he gets out of a huge hummer H2 jacked up even higher so my car would probably fit under it. I see him get out and he and his crew are laughing at my Mini. So he saunters in and is behind me in line (Im like oh great). He saw me get out and go in so he makes this remark to me " Excuse me girly (yes he said girly)The circus called and the clowns are pi$$ed cause you stole their car". So I turn around to him and all his laughing hyena buddies and politely say "Well they sure were stupid to send the FAT MAN to come and get it!!!" They just stopped and looked at me. Everyone that heard started snickering....I love my MINI, it is a bad little ride. Doesnt really look like a chick car, but I like that too!! As for other owners waving, I do get quite a few waves and light flashes. With the mods and exhaust I do get a lot of compliments from the guys, women it's pretty much the same "what a cute car!"

Every "clown car" comment I have received from friends and family, I just hand them the keys and say "In 5 minutes you won't be saying that" and we go for a ride. Even my die hard chevy brother in law got out and said "It's not bad, can I drive it next weekend to (where ever he was going)?" Of course I said no, but he was converted, not enough to buy one, but he wants to take my car wherever we go anywhere.

Lots of "cute car" and "clown car" comments and lots of hey how does that thing handle the winter questions. Of course there are the jerks in the huge trucks that think it's a POS until you take off from the light.

The only convert I have yet to win over is my own wife. She hates riding in it because it's so small and she likes her Honda SUV. Telling her to drive it has not worked because she won't drive it.... that's fine with me. More time behind the wheel for me then .
