R50/53 a BIG boy jumped on my MINI's bonnet!
Let me guess, this happened in Orange County, California? I was thinking that when I read your story. I have seen parenting skills lack when it comes to their kids in OC. I always thought it was just my sister but I had noticed the same with other parents there as well. That is why I am harder on my daughter as is my brother with his kids. Loved growing up there but don't like it now, that’s why I left OC 5 years ago.
Missy, I am sorry to hear that this happened to you. The lack of responsibility of their part shouldn't be your problem. They will get theirs in return when this kid is teenager.

I feel for ya. As a former middle school teacher I could tell you all kinds of stories about crappy parents raising crappy kids but you already know about that, you met one.
I will tell you a story that happened several years ago to a friend of mine who will remain nameless.
Once upon a time there was a guy who owned a truck. It was a fairly nice truck of the Ford persuasion that enjoyed sitting in a parking lot lookin sharp for the masses. One night an evil troll, well, a really big guy was found to be leaning on the side of the truck talking to young ladies and trying to corrupt their virtue. It was noticed by the owner (my friend) that the rivits of the evil big guy's jeans were sratching the paint off the quarter panel of the innocent little truck. My friend leapt to the defense of his truck and the virtue of the young ladies and told the guy, "hey man, your scratching my paint." The evil ogre, er i mean, big guy responded with the most intellegent come back in history, "so". Now being a man of gentle disposition my noble friend answered, "get off the truck or you'll be real sorry." To make a long story shorter we will skip the verbal exchange that followed as Mark or another mod. would be forced to edit or delete the copious profanities. The uncaring lout left. Unfortunately for the big oaf my buddy spoke with the young ladies, who being smart and well educated did not fall for the guy's line of bull poo. He had however told them where he lived. The next morning, I feel sure, the big lout let out a wail of despair as he found a small hole in the right front fender of his 78 Trans-am. The wail probably grew to a most unmanly scream as he opened the hood and saw the damage a large caliber high powered rifle slug does to an intake/carburator.
Now i'm not saying my gentle soft spoken friend would do such a heinous thing to another's vehicle, I know I didn't. So the question remains, does the jerk still lean on others vehicles when trying to pick up women or did some midnight vigilante teach him some manners?
Hope this at least gave you a smile

Umm, notice that Jersey Girl's and Missy's incident both involved disgusting suv's. Might this be a reflection on the self-centreness of people who drive these tanks???
>>I feel for you. We had a similar situation with irresponsible parents at my "favorite" MINI dealership. Unfortunately, it was my boyfriend's brand new Jetta.
>>
>>This ridiculously huge SUV parks next to us. Kid gets out of ridiculous SUV and wails his door into Jetta. Mom is sitting inside ridiculous SUV yapping on her cell phone. Dad has gotten out and walked off. When we confront the parents, the father first off doesn't believe us. Then when he sees that the door opens EXACTLY into the ding says, "Well what do you want me to do about it?" We start screaming and Mom now finally gets off the cell phone and starts yelling at me from inside the SUV. She starts to get out to confront me and I slam the door in her face. I was so mad, had she gotten out I was probably going to hit her so she's lucky I only slammed the door.

Since you live in California you can call the plate in for a Annoymous Smog Report. Its a toll free number to report bad smog cars that the state has. The owner will need to take the car in for a smog check at their own exspense. Revenge is a wonderful thing.
What would I do???
Well, as soon as my head stopped rotating and the pea soup projectile vomiting ceased, I'd have crawled through the window of their land barge and belly flopped the occupants... repeatedly!!!

That is the most absurdly... absurd (!) story, ever! Not that I want to infringe upon anyones civil liberties, but stories like that make me a little more receptive to the idea of forced sterilization...

Think about it; these morons had to take a course to learn how to drive, and then pass a test. To be parents: NOTHING is required. I have a fantasy: a blood test for stupidity. "I'm sorry, sir/madam, our tests have indicated that you are a moron. As per state law, mandatory sterilization procedures will commence; you must not be permitted to pollute the gene pool. Have a nice day".
I'm in shock. I can't imagine how you kept your temper as well as you did.
I hope SOMEONE does something - (insurance or cops) and these other folks are right about the security tape.
You have my deepest sympathies.

First off, you handled it pretty darn well ... kudos.
Personally, I think pursing insurance, police reports and possibly even small claims court would be worthwhile. My hopes would be that this inconvenience and/or embarrassment on the part of the parents would motivate them into rethinking their lack of parental discipline (not to mention the bad examples they are setting).
However, realistically, it would PROBABLY not accomplish that. At least it might help you feel a little better about the incident and that would be a good thing.
I too would have been tempted to physically block their exit from the parking lot (placing my car at further risk).
I too would have been likely to verbally confront them. And quite possibly in a heated manner (though we probably all know that anger and harsh words will likely not accomplish much).
As for all the suggestions about pounding, wrestling, flopping and otherwise threatening or carrying out bodily harm, I completely understand (and share) the EMOTION, but I truly hope no-one here would be dumb enough to actually do it.
I mean, just think about the legal firestorm you'd awaken striking a kid. And the news would eat up striking a parent IN FRONT OF their innocent little 10 year old child (you can read that with sarcasm, but that's the spin the news would put on it). The lawsuit and potential prison time would not be worth it.
I grew up in NYC and on Long Island. Crime was pretty rampant, manners inexistent. But I studied self-defense from an early age and I learned something important. You NEVER know when the other guy/gal is violent psychopath, who carries a gun, a knife, a baseball bat in the back of their SUV. I feel pretty darn confident about my and my wife's ability to handle ourselves in a self-defense situation, but I'd hate it to come to that as a result of some scratches. Ya know?
I hope you get your satisfaction. If nothing else, sleep soundly in the fact that you will never allow such rude and obnoxious behavior from your own kids (if you decide to have them) and are therefore contributing to the solution and not the problem.

That is horrible. First off I wouldve gotten arrested cause I would have eventually hit either the parent or the kid. Second of all, when this happens if possible...... BLOCK THEM IN. Pull your car in front of thiers and cut the ignition. Then call 911 and have an officer come out there immediately as there are attempting to leave the scene of an incident.

The difference, Kelley, is that you'd have to be packing barbells in your pockets to make the sort of impression that Big Boy did.
(and actually, the thought of you bellyflopping into the SUV adds a slim window of humor on this whole weird incident
)

Oh god... I'm crying!!!
Thread originator (memory like a seive, I've got): I recommend persuing small claims court if ONLY to cause the parents as much inconvenience as humanly possible. Even if you get a whopping $5 out of it, pester them until they realize their idiocy!
OhhhhhhhhhhhK... must stop laughing at Big Boy and the mental image of me, with barbells, bellyflopping in an SUV.... whew...

I am so confused... A ten year old kid throws a fibreglass BIG BOY on top of your MINI and his parents laugh it off, but you got even by shooting their Trans-Am's carburator with your rifle, and afterwords called 911 to file a hit and run against the Big Boy franchise? You must be some kind of gun-totin' pot smokin' wacko.
Just Kidding. I honestly can't understand the mentality of some people. Hope you get justice and they get a lesson they won't soon forget.

oh man... Bob's Big Boy! That was my high school restaurant. mmm... chocolate shakes and onion rings... The Bob wasn't anchored to the ground so every year the senior class would kidnap him and leave him on top of the lockers.

>>I honestly can't understand the mentality of some people.
Let me help you understand.
We love our cars.
We hate ignorant jerks.
We especially hate ignorant jerks that hurt our cars.
We wish we could inflict as much anguish upon those jerks as they inflict on us.
Clear?

Now THAT is a good idea.
I would find out who they were from the police report and wait a while and then call when you know he will be home.
Tell him you are calling from radio station KROW or something and tell him if he can answere the following question he will will a complete home entertainment center, big screen tv, surround sound, dvd player, and the latest game boy with 20 games of his choice. give him an easy question and tell him he won and that it will be delivered later.
he will tell all his friends and then will look stupid later.
this works. (don't ask how I know

I think in addition to what you did, you should have jumped out of your car, yelled "BODYSLAM!!!" and did a flying elbow onto the kid. After all, if the parents aren't going to do it, someone else is eventually going to have to somewhere down the line.
