AFTERMARKET RADIO

So my stock radio crapped out on me, I have replaced it with an aftermarket one. What fuse do you use for a 12 volt constant? I would like for it to function like my orginal radio in terms of on and off. If anyone knows can you plz comment on this because i have been trying and i am just lost as to where to get in to function normally and shut on and off with the car.

go to a local auto parts store and get a cheap test light. Ground one end and then with the key off probe all of the connectors from the factory radio. There should be one that is constant hot, meaning that there is power present whether the key is on or off. There should be at least one that is switched with the key. There should also be one that comes on with the parking and head lights. That one will act like a ground when the lights are off. Do not use it as a ground wire!

I forgot to mention that you shouldbe able to use the factory speaker wires. To determine which wire goes to which speaker you will need a "D" cell battery and a couple of short lengths of wire. Tape the wires to the battery, one on each end. Don't let them touch one another!

Once you've ruled out which wires are the constant hot, accessory, lights and ground as described in the post above, there should be 8 wires left. Hold one of the wires from the battery on one of the 8 connectors and then touch the other wire randomly to the other 7. You should hear a scratching or pop sound from one speaker when you hit upon the right two. Mark them off and continue to determine which of the rest of them goes to which speaker.

I have everything connected, and i can get it powered on by plugging into a fuse, but its the wrong fuse because the car can be off and the radio will stay on even if i get out of the car. I need the fuse to shut the radio off after the car is off. You know what i mean?

well thats the thing, ill give a little more background here. My radio crapped out, but im not completely sure its my radio that went bad. I tried running the new aftermarket from the 5 amp fuse for the radio but it didnt work at all. So i switched to the 15 amp fuse for the radio and that works, but never turns off. I tried a couple other fuses, gauges and windows i believe but those didnt work either. Its the first time ive seen something where the harness didnt include the 12v constant so im just a little puzzled as to if im doing something wrong or there is something wrong with the car.

well if you by chance have a volt meter you can check it with the car off, then turn put the car in acc. and see wich one comes on. or maybe you connected the yellow where the red wire was supposed to be. be sure its the red one you are trying to use and not the yellow, yellow is hot, red is acc.

i will check the fuses tonight and see wich one you can use if its not that

thanks
chris
