R50/53 SOLD
SOLD
Thought I'd drop in for a farewell to everyone that's helped with my questions since I've joined the forum. I recently (Monday) sold my Mini to a buddy of mine. Then today I went by to see how he was liking his new toy and he said that the power steering went out and it was in the shop. I felt horrible, I had driven this car since the beginning of July, everyday! This is one of the many reasons I hate selling any car to a friend.
It's a no-win situation. If the friend lusts after the car, you can't NOT give him a chance to have it when you DO sell; but when he buys it, if --no, WHEN -- anything really bad goes wrong, you can't help but feel like crap.
Don't take it too seriously, or worry too much, though. If he is a really good friend, you guys will both get over it some way. When you're both old, you'll remember it and both laugh yourselves silly, like it was the funniest thing that ever happened.

When you sell an used car you sell it AS-IS. Too bad if it craps out after the money/title exchange transaction has taken place.
When you buy used you assume risks. If you want to minimize risks, then pony up the extra money and buy brand new with warranty.
