Can I drive my MINI with the PS pump out?

I'm having a mechanic take out my power steering pump so I can ship it to Idaho to be reman'd. So for about 7 days I'll be missing a p/s pump. Does anybody know for sure that I can drive the car like that? Thanks.

I was wondering if this was possible as well. I think it would be really really difficult to drive in the city, possibly just short of impossible for some. I was also wondering if it would put extra stress on the mechanical parts.

I think the pump assembly contains some parts that are necessary for the linkages to function. Like internal gears and stuff. So if it is removed, then you'd be missing a mechanical link.

Now, if it were only disabled, everything would still work mechanically, however, can the steering column take it? I'm not sure.

Hmmm, looks like I'd better just let it sit until the ps pump is reman'd and put back in. Thanks for the input!

I know that you can drive it without the power steering working (I have done it) but the total absence of the pump may have other consequences as Nabehin suggests.
