Whine from Hydraulic fluid reservoir after engine shut off.

After a long slow rush hour drive hiome just now, I pull into my garage and shut off the engine. But there is a continuing whine coming from the Hydraulic fluid reservoir. Anybody know what this is? I just filled it yesterday. It is still whining now, 15 mins after engine shut off.

Well, I just disconnected the battery and the noise stopped. So it seems it is the power steering that didn't turn off. Is this a common problem? And what is the problem? Thanks

An hour later, I hook up the battery and the whine starts again. I'm assuming I can drive like this but disconnect the battery when I get to work and back, until i can get it repaired.

Do a search for power steering fan or pump. I recall reading someplace around here where, for some odd reason, the pump or the fan for it would get stuck in the on position.
