Well It finally happened, my tranny gave out at 90,238 miles. I'm sending it to my good friends shop and it just so happens he has a Getrag from a Cooper S (R53) that is in prime condition. I need to know if it will fit my 2003 R50. And, if so will it benefit me in any way other than having an extra gear on the highway? Or will it make my car less powerful in any way? For example are the gear ratios so different that I would lose torque or Hp at the wheels? Please let me know if you know anything, ANY input is appreciated greatly.

It will asbolutely fit - we did the swap and did a full write-up on it, including what other parts you need to do it... There's an analysis of the gear ratios of the earlier Getrag 6-speed and the later one, too versus the Midlands. Either one would be fine, but it'll be snappier with the later model. Still, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to get your hands on a cheap Getrag-6!
