Per searocko's link (thanks for it):

Resetting Oil Service Light on your 2002 - 2006 MINI Cooper and Cooper S, and 2007 - 2008 MINI Convertibles:

1) Press and hold the trip button
2) Insert key and turn to position 1
3) Watch for RESET to appear
4) Release the button, then press & hold it again
5) Wait for the RESET to flash
6) Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
7) Service interval should then be reset to next interval

I had the last oil change at Pep Boys and they didn't know how to reset the prompter, so hubby did the procedure as listed above. Easy-peasy!

Steves Auto

Yes, I know Steve's Auto Clinic because thats where Randy Webb installed the SC pulley. The airbag system on our car due to early issues has a warranty for 150K miles from MINI USA, so it is a dealer issue.

For everything else, it goes to Johnnys Auto Clinic in San Pedro, Steve's or South Bay Mercedes BMW Repair in Hermosa Beach.

Thanks for the info...maybe I will give Universal MINI a chance, or just wait till he gets home and take it to South Bay Mini.

I had an incident like this, but they just said "we recomend you do the full inspection today". I figured an oil change is 80 dollars, the inspection cant be more than 150. WOW was I surprised when I got that 800 dollar bill...

Not to downplay your bad experiences, but Bob Smith exerted heroic effort to reach a happy conclusion on a defect with my car. I didn't buy it from them, and I dealt with literally every person in their service department at one point or another, including the head of the Bob Smith service department (for both BMW and MINI). At the end of the day, they actually exceeded what they said they would do on my behalf. They kept grinding along for a solution, and never gave me any attitude about it. I actually felt bad for them along the way, having to deal with my car/problem. This is starting to sound like I work for them or something. LOL! My only affiliation with them is that they just happen to be the dealer closest to me.

I just wanted to say to all those who gave me the oil reset tip, it took a few trys, but I finally figured it out and my oil is finally reset! Thank you sooo much. What took me maybe 5-10 minutes to figure out would have taken Bob Smith 1 minute to do and they would have had a happy customer.

But now they have an angry customer who is going to advice others not to go there. Pretty sad on their end. Now, phase two is to write them and let them know about this.

Glad I stumbled on this thread,

Looking at getting a Mini sometime soon, went over there to look at the Used selection. Not only were their prices some 5-10K more then other Used minis, but they tried to sell me on the first visit. I was looking at a cooper and I asked to sit in it. Then the guy goes on talking about how he could get me an amazing deal ( still some 5K more) and how we should go discuss it in his office. . Wont even let me start it first? Come on.

ABout 10 years ago My dad took his old 540I to the old Bob Smith Dealer in woodland hills, and after 3 different tries they finally got the new waterpump to seal correctly...

I was looking for what's included on the 50k maint and found this thread.. I was also a person that used to go to BS Mini.

Everything was a contradiction when dealing with that dealership. The last straw was about 1 miles before my service plan was up. I asked for an oil change a paid for it out of pocket because it wasn't due but wanted them to check the brakes knowing it would be $$$ to get them replaced afterwards.

Picked up Jerome and no one said a word about the brakes. I had to ask them if they checked them and how they were looking. "Oh, they were fine" I knew they have a form that they use to record the brakes measure, but I didnt press for it due to waiting for 15 min just to speak to the SA to GET the car.

2 weeks later.. squeek.. squeek.. took Jerome to my tire guy who has always treated me right.. "Yeah, your pads are gone..."

Your pad wear indicator light did not come on? Should have... And when it does it has to be replaced as well.
