I have now had my car for 2 weeks and this morning I was on my way to work and lost the power steering. I had to muscle the 17" tires around slow moving corners. Not Fun. Where do you add Power Steering Fluid? I couldnt find it. I took it to the dealer and they couldnt seem to find the problem either. Is it too late to add the Extended Warranty??

I lost my power steering on my 2002 Cooper... If you don't hear the powersteering motor when your parked then you nee a new motor... MINI replaced the motor for free.

It's electric. No reservoir, no fluid.

It sounds like either the pump failed or the fan that cools it is jammed so the pump stopped. The dealer should fix it under warranty. I have heard of other cars loosing a power steering pump in the first couple of weeks. That's why there is a warranty.

Mundo -- that is not correct. Look under the hood, near the firewall, and you will find the reservoir. In the manual it is grayed out, but believe me, it's there! The electric pump pumps normal power steering fluid to the steering rack.

A couple of month ago, I had a sudden failure of the PS while on a trip.
I told the story in this posting. The electric PS pump had failed, and that took out the wiring harness that connects the pump to the rest of the car. It was repaired under warranty without any question. The car was a  DOG! to drive at low speeds without the PS working. The PS fluid level was fine.
