R50/53 A/C Issue or a Norm?
A/C Issue or a Norm?
Ok I got and 03 MCS and when driving around the city the ac doesnt blow that cold even if I start my car 10 min early to attempt to cool it down nothing, it will get cooler inside but takes what seems like forever (about 30+ min) Granted the temps here have been in the 100's. Im only assuming it becuse there is only hot air moving throught the "condenser" part of the ac system not really helping it cool. Also anyone else think that the mini has a poor a/c system or is it just me and this heat downhere in the south.
I have the IHKA and it seems to be working flawlessly, when I start my ac up I turn of recerculation, and after about 10-15 turn it on.

We own a 2003MCA. Bought New. Our A/C was not working that well. Seemed that not much cool air was flowing from the dash vents. Checked
Cabin Filter. It was VERY dirty. Put new one in. Problem solved.

Just put a new one in about 3000 miles ago if that.
There are many reports of substandard AC. Mine had been working fine, but just this summer got quite tepid.
Mine was addressed (if not resolved) by adding some R134a refrigerant. You can get it at most auto parts stores. Kits with pressure gauges run ~$30. I had good luck with Interdyne's 'Arctic Freeze' product. Refilled my Subaru with the 'regular' stuff, and it didn't do much (pressure didn't indicate it was low.) After a can of the Artic Freeze, it's cold as ever.
It's worth the $$ to try, especially in those temps!!

Try measuring the temperature of the cool air coming out of your vents with the A/C set to LO and the fan on a high setting. It should be in the mid-to-low 40 deg F range. If it's much higher than that, you're probably low in refrigerant and need a recharge (and a leak check). When my MINI was new, one of the fittings in the A/C system was leaking just a tiny bit and the refrig would get low about every 6 months. The second time I took it in to the dealer for this, they did a leak check, replaced the bad fitting and recharged the system and I've had great A/C cooling since even in 100 deg F ambient temps this summer.
