So why does the new R56 MCS sound so much different than the R53? I am talking about the exhaust? Is is simply just a different exhaust or is there something else that makes it sound different? I really like the sound of the exhaust and was listening to an Alta catback for the R56 and it sounds different than the Alta R53 catback (I like the R56 sound a lot).

 

Going off the few Youtube vids I've seen, I'm gonna say it's the new motor. If you think about it, a turbo acts like a muffler. So in essence, it's like having an extra resonator to kill sound. With the '53 not having the turbo, it's a whole Hell of a lot louder.

 

Eaton superchargers (the whine) are VERY loud. The absence of that alone makes a huge difference in sound.

 

The turbo muffles the sound too.

 

The turbo sound makes sense... Now I see why the exhaust is so much less involved (smaller) on the R56. I guess the sound is already reduced by the time it gets to the muffler. I have heard the SRT4 as well and its a similar type of sound.

The absence of the supercharger whine is something I would really miss, but I have to say the new exhaust note the engine puts out is nice.
