How to get a code???

Anyone know how to get a code when your Mini's Service engine Soon light comes on?
I know with our Jeep, if you turn the key to the start position and then off again 2x, the code will come up.

Take it too local auto parts store

I dont think there is a onboard way to read the codes like your Jeep
