Help with computer code p0130

So i recently had the check engine light go on. Took it into Pep Boys had them pull the code for me. It gave me a:

po130 o2 sensor circuit malfunction (Bank 1 sensor 1)

So I am going to replace the o2 sensor. But in buying one should I be getting the one before the cat or after the cat?

Thanks

Dear Brianthenewguy,
Sure that is the pre-cat. Recommend changing the O2 sensors at 100K per manual, so depends on your mileage and finances. They are pricey at about $150.00 from advance auto (don't know about Prep-Boys). Word of "free advice" from a problem lasting over a year, buy only Bosch brand, had a problem from Minicarparts.net, cost was about half, looked identical and didn't work right. Good luck.

Thanks, Was it the Bank1 or sensor one that lead you to believe it was pre-cat? Thanks for the info though.

Dear Brianthenewguy,
I had been told from someone from NAM that this was the pre-cat sensor.

It is the pre cat. I just replaced mine today. Got it from pep boy's $170.00, auto zone wanted 200.00. it was a bosch o2 sensor.

Help with replacing o2 sensor

Can anyone help me??? I need diagrams and tips on how to change the 02 sensor. I think it is the pre catalytic one based on the earlier replies since I am getting P0130 code. I am also getting P0302 which is the misfre on cylinder 2 which I hope is from the o2 sensor issue?

Go to realoem.com and follow the leads. You should see a pretty good diagram of what you're looking for. Might need an O2 sensor socket (slotted to clear the wires), and remember: only change it when the car is stone cold. Hot exhaust, stripped threads, burnt digits, etc. if not.
Oh, heck, go here:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...75&hg=18&fg=10
it's an '04 non-S, but they are all pretty similar. You didn't give any info on yours, so I just closed my eyes
and guessed.
