Spare Key...

Does anyone know if the spare key is water proof? I am talking about the key that looks like the one with buttons, only this one does not. I guess you would call this one the valet key. I need a key that can get wet and I am wondering if this one can. I don't think that it will mess up the transponder but want to make sure. Any help would be great, thanks.

I'm not sure if it is waterproof but it sure looks like it is sealed.
Probably you will never get MINI or a dealership to say it is waterproof but it should be ok for getting wet. Not hold under water for extended periods wet, but in your pocket for rafting wet.

To be on the safe side you might want a "credit card" key of plastic made (free at AAA) that can be used just to open the doors (without a remote). Then you can take the plastic card scuba diving with you and not worry about getting it wet.

Due to trial by fire, the spare key IS waterproof. After spending 8+ hours a day for the last 3 days in the river with me and some friends, the key still works like a charm. Great back up key if your are going to the river or the lake.

I broke one apart by accident and it appears to have a chunk of magnet in it and that is it!!!!

Definitely water proof.
