ok..sorry..but that just burns me..."its all done with a computerized system thing"..
get real....

first of all to let you ALL in on something...just becasue you have the proper code of the car..doesn't mean that there are different variants of the color...each paint MFG> has there own version of the color..trust me...PPG, DUPONT etc....

And if you think a computer will match the perfect you not on thr right side of reason,
a good eye is sometimes 10 times better than a computer would every be.....

i could go on and on why you get variations in color...but i do it all day am my brain hurts...

so yes...if it is that wrong of course take it back..and tell them to MATCH it this time...not just something close....

Sorry, billyg. I wasn't trying to slag your line of work at all. Far from it. What I had a problem with was that this shop said that they just ordered the paint according to the code inside the door frame!? That's fine for touch-up, but I'm under the impression that most good shops are doing computerized matching these days. And I understand the blending and all of that. Every time I've had body work done, they match the panel that needs the work and then do blends on the adjoining panel(s) so that it all matches up. This shop apparently only painted the bumper and didn't blend anything anywhere...

Again, sorry if I ruffled feathers...I was speaking from my (obviously) limited experience in paint matching that I have needed for numerous vehicles. I realize that it's very much an art. Otherwise any shop could do a perfect job every time. And that clearly is not the case!

One warning about complaining and getting it repainted. I had a car in the past that had a door damaged that was repaired and then painted but with a shade off color. So I sent it back to be repainted. Well they did a little better job but never striped off the old paint so the final job was so thick in paint that it all cracked over time. Tiny cracks on the whole door over time as the paint aged- maybe several years. Never on the original paint only the damaged door.

Sorry to hear about your hassles. Hope they can do better.

I thought the same thing. If I ***** to much you never know what they do to other parts that I might not notice.

I think I'll have them blend it in, and try for huge discount on getting the Mini tinted.

The more I think about it the color is good, just off a shade. And you are right, the human eye can see it. I'm a computer guy and my eyes see everything (well not everything), but color shades I'm good at.

Thanks again, I'll post what happens.

Stacey is correct - you need to call your Insurance Man! and then I'd PM Chitown and have him recommend a good body shop in the Chicago area!!

Good luck! You will be happy in the end!
