R50/53 Leatherette vs Leather
Last 4 Bimmers have had leatherette. No issues, oldest is 96 with 150k miles. Tried one with real leather, cracks in two years..

I seem to remember it being called Nahgihide or some such word, and believe me lots of nahgies have been put down for their hides

A buddy of mine and I bought a roll of it when we re-did the door panels on his '62 XKE. That was back in '75.

ahhh yes, naugyhyde.. actually thats VERy good vinyl.. top notch stuff.. I think thats what Mercedes used and its extremely well wearing and much softer than vinyl.
i do remember thought that there was a huge backlash against vinyl after awhile.. in the late 70's early '80s. IN the 1950-1960's era it was considered a luxury
