>>That was a weird thread... ...now I'm kind of wondering why everyone was up in arms about the identical MINIs, but nobody seemed at all phased by the STALKING. Hello?>>>

Hey, wait a minute, give me some credit here. I wasn't up in arms about the twin cars, I was more disturbed by the stalking...

>>>Uhhhh, am I missing something here? I mean, I'd be less pissed that the person has no imagination than the fact that the dealer showed them a copy of your order. Frankly, they've got no business sharing a private document like that and I'd make a little noise at the dealership.

But, as for the rest of it. It's annoying, I guess, it's a little more like stalking than anything else. "The difference between stalking and talking is just one letter">>>

>>Ever have a neighbor, who obviously has no self-confidence or vision, wait until your car arrives at the dealer and on that very day place an order asking to duplicate your car in every detail?
>>
>>Ours did  . Thinking of cancelling the scheduled pickup appointment and letting the neighbor have the car. Wonder if the doubt of why it suddenly became available would get their goat? At least they would suddenly have some serious doubts.

You can either take it as a compliment to your good taste or let it ruin your experience. I would choose the former. Besides, neighbors aren't forever. Ignore the neighbor's obvious shortcomings and flaky behavior and just enjoy your car!!!

Most of the folks in my neighborhood are gonna say, "why did you want that" when they see my MINI. However, if someone bought one exactly like it I'd be flattered and also happy to have another MINI owner nearby.

Its been a few weeks and the shock of the neighbor's lack of creativity and petty jealousy has blown over. We're waiting until her car arrives before doing too much to differentiate and customize our car. The personalized plate (which because of TN state laws can not be duplicated) should arrive in about two weeks. That will help a little. Thanks for all the advice and counsel! The sympathy and empathy helped smooth out the crisis period. Hopefully we can all enjoy motoring in our MINIs.

I have to pipe in on this one. I hat eto **** on your parade but all of us are posers of one flavor or another. See we bought a car that ended production for the states in the 60's. While given a new owner and make over we own a MINI! I came to terms with that when a '65 cooper that looked just like mine pulled up next to me and I had bragged about having one of the first in the states. I felt a bit like a copy cat but the gy just smiled and gave me the thumbs up. He had won and I was humbled.

Its your car, not hers. Enjoy it, drive it, customize it or not. You had it first... poser
