Curbed! (Bad)

Hey everyone i'm new here. So breif intro:

I'm Will, 19, University of Tennessee, Knoxville college student. Journalism major, en route to Southern Theological Lutheran Seminary in South Carolina.

I drive a 2005 White w/black roof & stripes MCS... "Hannah"

Anyway, onto the problem. We had a freeze here last night in East TN and i hit a patch of black ice in my neighborhood going around a corner doing around... 30 mph maybe... i hit the curb on the left side and scraped both left rims fairly badly. I stopped the car, got out and checked around everything. Steering is okay, car doesn't pull when braking, however under heavy acceleration above 50mph the steering wheel shakes subtley. I plan on getting my alignment checked saturday, could i have a bent control arm or any other possible damage?

Thanks for any input,
Wing

it's possible. control arm or steering rack... i would take it to a mechanic and see him check the underside.

Another thing to check is for bent wheels. Takes less than one would think to do this.

I agree. I hit a bad pavement change "lip" last summer, and even though it didn't damage any suspension/steering components or the alignment, I could notice a subtle difference in handling and had a slight steering wheel shimmy at around 50-60 mph. When the tech put the wheel on the balancer, we could see a slight side-to-side wobble indicating a bent rim.

Hey thanks for all the replies. I think I'll enjoy posting up at this place!

When I go to the mechanic to check alignment, I'll be sure to get him to check control arms, steering rack, and see what he can do about checking for bent rims. If it is the rims, that is just an amazing excuse to buy Motegi Tracklites!!
