R50/53 waiting time survey
>>I dunno 'bout that. I just ordered my red minimocha cvt at East Bay MINI (Pleasanton, CA) over the labor day weekend, and they told me I probably wouldn't see my car until May or June! That's a long wait, and, not to get all gross on ya, but I could have a BABY sooner than that. So now I'm debating whether or not I should just plop down the extra $1000 or $2000 that other Bay Area dealers are asking for to have it by December, or just visiting the folks over at Salt Lake City just to have my car 3 months sooner than Pleasanton's projected delivery date. Tough decision...
My wait from placing my order (7/12/02) to taking delivery (9/14/02) was just 2 months and 2 days. Two weeks of that was sitting at the dock waiting for a glut of cars to get processed.
My dealer told me when I did pick up my car that a number of his customers had purchased cars off the lot during their waiting time (and thus their originally ordered cars were available for sale once they arrived). That's probably why he has several dozen cars currently available for sale RIGHT NOW (all at MSRP). See my post in the Marketplace forum for more info.
Anyway, as you've seen in this thread (and many, many others) it's all about dealer allocation. There are cars out there right now waiting to be purchased at not a dollar over list...if you're willing to look and able to travel to pick them up. Good luck!

I found my MINI S in Yahoo after several weeks of shopping. I got the car exactly as I wanted Dark Silver Balck Top, options and price wise. I made $1000 down on Sept 3 to reserve the car and took delivery on Sept 9 from Braman Motorcas in West Palm Beach FL. Spent two hours at the dealership and I was on my way home to San Diego Cal arriving 46 hours later. Overall almost two months of restless nights dreaming about owning a MINI S. Now I just dream about my next motoring route the more S turns the better.
Northwest Mini serving Seattle/Tacoma is quoting April delivery for orders taken now (mid-September). That sounds a LOT longer wait than most others here are experiencing -- is that a function of dealer allocation too?
My plan is to order in November and take delivery in May/June 2003... that means a full nine months of dreaming about my MINI...
