I am about to go for my first visit to the BMW service center to programme:

1. The key button so it closes the windows as well as the locks.
2. The key button so that it opens the locks and the boot when I keep it pressed. (Right now it does nothing to unlock - only to lock.)
3. The front (main) lights to switch off when I take the key out.

I read through the manual once and couldn't find anything else.

Any ideas what else I could change to make my Mini more practical/fun?

 

What about the AUTO FEATURE ON THE WINDOWS?

Sometimes they go all the way, sometimes they don't! Is there any way to programme how long you have to keep the switch pressed to make the window open or close completely?

It seems to work for the driver's window only all the time. The other one is OK when you first start up, but not afterwards!

Go to pp41 of your owner's manual; it gives a "partial" listing of items that can be programmed on your MINI. We probably need to get someone with the "shop CD" to get a listing of ALL of the features that can be programmed.

 

I had my key programed two weeks ago and here is what I got. I can open the windows and sunroof with the key, but as a trade off, I can no longer unlock the hatch by holding the key down. I have the daytime running lights activated and the door locks lock when I get about 10mph. We don't have all the options like in Europe with something between 15 and 20 functions.

 

My (European) manual, has no such information on page 41!!

Can you post a summary or brief version of what you see there?

1) Doors to unlock with the button is a must
2) Doors to autolock after 10-20km/h is a good idea
3) Small front lights to switch on over a certain speed I'm thinking about
4) Lights to switch off when i take the key out is a must.
5) Windows to automatically close when the key has been out of the engine for more than 90" is a good idea
6) Windows to close with the locks is a must
7) Window auto close (full) timings need recallibrating

Anything else?

 

I have the option to open all the windows and the sunroof with the remote, but my dealer said that they cannot program them to close...this is a US certification thing for safety purposes...I can close all of them by using the key in the door, however.

 

OK, so I just got back from the BMW service center and here's the low down:

1) They can't make the windows close with the button when I lock!
2) They can't make the windows open with the button when I unlock!
3) They can't make the doors unlock when I pull the handbrake (though the manual says you can!)
4) They couldn't get the light to stay on after I switch off the engine (though they thought they could!)
5) They couldn't get the doors to lock after 40" of moving. (Not by speed like the others mention in this forum.)

So guess what? You guys in the US have it better it seems!

The kit for boosting to 193 bhP should be here next week and I am seriously considering though....
