R50/53 Whirrr!
Whirrr!
Hi;
I am looking at purchasing a 2002 Cooper with about 130 kms on the clock.
Everything seems to be in order aside from one curious item.
The transmission (5sp) seems to make a "whirring" sound. This occurs while driving and foot on the throttle. It does not occur while coasting with the clutch pedal depressed, or the tranmission in neutral.
Could this be indicitive of a serious problem?
I sure hope not, I really dig the car!
Cheers!
Dave.

The 02-04 Mini Coopers were notorious for having problems, until in 05 they switched to Getrag gearboxes. You might have a problem. Before you buy, factor in the cost of a completely new gearbox, just to make sure you can afford it!
