so when my daughter and I were out running around I stopped by Annapolis MINI and asked if I could take one out for a drive. They smiled and handed me some keys. We took out a 5 speed CR/CR Cooper. There were some nice twisties nearby and I was having a ball! I couldn't wipe the silly grin off my face. I made several comments like, "I'm going to have to learn to take curves going over the speed limit." This was because I am used to driving a Camry and taking sharp curves somewhat cautiously. I had to force myself to give the MINI some gas. My daughter cracked wise that, "Maybe you should just consider staying within the speed limit!" On one stretch of road I glanced over at the speedo and said something about going 55 - she said, "Mom, you're doing 65." Whoops - the speed limit was 45. HEE! I kept saying "WATCH THIS!" and gunning it out of turns - WHEEEEEEEEE! I wasn't going really fast but it sure did feel like it. The only thing I didn't care for was the demo didn't have sports seats and I found my body shifting a little more than I like in the curves. It was great fun, though.

When we got back to the dealership I had the biggest, dumbest grin on my face and I couldn't wipe it off. My salesman asked if I had fun. You bet!!! He said a lot of people come in and take rides while awaiting delivery so I didn't feel too silly.

They had a sweet little demo there; MCS, Pure Silver, black top, black bonnet stripes, loaded - very tempting but about $8K more than my little VR/W Cooper that should arriving in about 3 weeks. I just can't reconcile myself to the extra $$ even though it was one hot looking car. I am leaning toward stripes more, though after seeing it. Does anybody have them on a VR/W? What color do you have - white? Pics, please.

Sounds like you had fun!!! I shoulda thought of this during the 3 month wait for my MC. When I picked up my MINI the realization hit that I just bought a car I only drove once 3 months prior! Funny, never done that before for any other car. I too have been debating stripes...good luck on yours and enjoy your now-rare VR!

 

I also took a test drive this weekend and loved every minute of it. I tried a CR/W MC-S and thouroughly enjoyed taking banked on ramps at 75 and some really twisty curves without a sign of drift, dip, or squirrellyness.
