R50/53 Bad Gas In Vegas After AMVIV?
Filled up there full tanks a few times it was garbage gas. Noticed a loss of power, no pinging. I almost always added a bottle of octane boost/injector cleaner or some other product to improve fuel quality. We have 93 octane out here and the car was running like crud from Denver on thanks to the 91 and 90 octane premium found West of the Mississippi.
I hope nobody else has engine failure. I also hope some restitution is offered.

Hmmm.. I bought Chevron gas at Sahara and Eastern, then again at Flamingo and Decater. No problems encountered.Missed Terribles..
On going home Sunday back to southern Orange County I was going against major headwinds that did lower my gas milage.
Rusty Boy,These people with the blown engines travel into the headwinds? I would think that there would be some sort of warning signs before the engines would blow.Pinging or stalling. At least enough time to pull over and shut it down. Then investigate the problem. That's why I have AAA!
I think these people should have there gas tanks siphoned to chek for contamination. Signs of water would still be at the bottom of the saddle tanks.-Mike-

I filled up at that station Saturday night before heading out Sunday morning.
Since I was already nursing a car with problems (my check engine light came on Friday due to a broken supercharger intake tube, which was self inflicted damage when I changed out my bypass valve), I didn't push the car past 4,000 RPM all the way home.
I did hear some strange sounds on my way home. Best way to describe them is "pops". Almost always they sounded like they came from the rear of the car, but once under acceleration I swear it sounded like it came from under the hood. However, my intake tube problem was causing the car to run lean.
I also averaged about 22 mpg on I-15 going 75 MPH the whole way, but there was a very strong headwind. Keep in mind that I should have been able to get about 28-30 mpg at this speed and distance. When I toped off in Victorville, I started to average about 26-27 mpg, but I was now going a different direction on Pearblossom Highway, no longer against the wind.
Nick, I saw your car over at MINICORSA. What is the status of the other car? Is it anybody we know?
Chris

4-5 MPG difference from a headwind is a lot, you sure you weren't in the Jet Stream?

hey, rusty were you the "younger dude" over at danny's tuesday around 5pm? if so i was the tattooed freak picking up my old exhaust!
anyhow, good luck with the issue. weird that alot of people that have had issues with that station are here in california. maybe the fact that our cars have learned to run on cali's boutique "blends" and anything else can cause issues?

"Nuts" took over my "bad gas" posting to the LVRJ board. Only ood suggestion was to save samples of gas from your tanks and contact the pipeline company with complaints.
I sent this email to KLAS-TV in Vegas:
Send your feedback to I-Team Reporter George Knapp at gknapp@klastv.com
George,
Did your station cover the 500 - 600 Mini Cooper cars that met in Las Vegas last week? Well, a good number of the owners have complaints (including a couple of engine failures) about getting bad gas at Terrible Herbst Chevron on Sahara (Down the street from the Palace Station).,
see this site https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134458&highlight=vegas
Read there and if you reply to me, I will post there and send you names and phone numbers
Thanks
Ron
Stay tuned.

Sorry to hear about the issues - that bites!
Note: If at all possible never fill up at a station with a tanker in it - as was stated, when they're pumping, it stirs up anything that might be in the tank.
I filled up there when I got to Vegas on Tuesday and then again before the run to Death Valley and then again on Saturday before I left on Sunday Morning, didn't have any problems. Sorry to hear about the rest of you, hope it wasn't the gas
rustyboy,
PM me your name and phone number, as well as any other folks affected you may have. I got this reply to my email to George at KLAS-TV:
"We didn’t cover it to my knowledge, but I will share this note with my news managers. Sounds like something we might look into."

I got some contacts pm'd to me to pass to the LVRJ reported, if he asks for them.
Got a reply on LVRJ board:

IKE Seems to be right on this. Click on the Nevada State Agency listing here and go to the Motor Pool link or other related links that could deal with gas and you'll see what he's talking about. No money = no working website.
You could try the Nevada Consumer Affairs Division down the road on E Sahara.
I'm glad this post wasn't referring to my trip down to the Circuit City last week. I went in there after eating at Robertos. Carne ASSada burritos rock!!"
Somebody should have an injured party contact these two places, quick!

The local sponsoring mini club is SIN CITY MINI CLUB. Try to inquire there:

I filled up there on Friday morning before Red Rock. Didn't top up again until we hit a Shell in Mesquite on Sunday on our (long) drive home. Sorry to hear about the blown engines, that would have been the last thing I would have wanted that far from home.
I doubt that you'll get any traction...
sad, but true. No one official cares.
Matt
btw, didn't you see the signs on the way into Nevada?
"Welcome to Nevada! Leave your money then f***ck off!"

You're probably right, but with more and more cars having problems it puts the actual station in a bit of a pickle.
Did anyone else that filled up at the Terrible Herbst Chevron on Sahara (Down the street from the Palace Station) after AMVIV experience any issues with crappy gas milage or pinging? I've already heard from 7-8 people that have had MAJOR issues after filling up there. 2 confirmed blown motors.
In fact, i'd advise anyone that did get gas there to either siphon it out or dilute it with some higher octane (Race) gas.

Out of curiosity were both blown motors tuned and if so by whom ?
