R50/53 air filter change
air filter change
have an 06 MCS, all stock except for the SRP's.
just changed the air filter at 15K miles. Noticed a good amount of oily grit on the bottom side. Glad I changed it out.
Should I also scrub the intercooler? I was planning on doing that at around 20K. Where's the oil coming from? via the intercooler? (it's not a lot of oil, just noticed some on the filter. never seen that before on a car).
I also plan to change the trans fluid at around 25K. At some point I do plan to swapout with a CAI, and a 15% pulley.

When I changed mine it was black and slightly oily.
It does not come from the intercooler as that is farther down the intake line. The intercooler does get oil build up, and could use a good cleaning every now and then.

thanks for the info. I'll look around for an intercooler scrub how to.
If staying with the stock airbox a while longer, try the Alta filter. Better flow than stock. I think Waylon has them on his website.
Intercooler cleaning is pretty easy. Remove it, wash inside and out side with carb cleaner, air nozzle on compressor helps alot too. Start by "back flushing" pushes out particles instead of pushing them deeper. Treat fins with care, very easy to mangle. (Wear your goggles, small drop of carb cleaner in the eye is no fun!)
